    Does this really surprise anyone.

Anger at YouTube videos that show how to break into houses

Householders were warned today to check their security in an alert sparked by video website YouTube.

Hundreds of videos are available on the site showing users how to pick locks, which experts fear will result in a spate of burglaries.

The films were uncovered in an investigation by Which? magazine and sparked calls for YouTube to remove them from the site.

Careful...this is touching right on the edges of the forbidden political discussion. Anyway...they can pass a lot of laws in 2 years.

I've posted this across to the lp101 forums. Let's see what happens once the hounds are released.

Another interesting part of the article is where they say "experts fear will result in a spate of burglaries" yet only cite one person, who actually downplays the threat.

Fox News has a very similar story here but they actually present both sides and quote Jennifer Granick as well.

                Re: Lockpicking videos=evil!

This topic is pretty near and dear to my heart. The amount of media attention we (lock pickers) have been receiving as of late is astounding. I have been contacted for no less than 5 interviews in the last month. Some of the articles/stories have been pretty positive (or if nothing else, balanced), such as the Wall Street Journal article a few weeks back. But this kind of article is just a joke. Nothing more than fear mongering and sensationalism.

As sad as that article is, this one is much worse:

My personal favorite part is when the "local security expert" recommends using WD40 to make your locks bump resistant. Anyone who has even an iota of an idea of how bumping works would understand that lube would make it easier, not harder, to bump a lock... yet the "local security expert" recommends it.

Nothing drives me more nuts than when "professionals" talk outta their ass and those who actually know aren't given a voice.

                  also from the Pittsburgh article...

something called a bump key, which looks like any other old key, but its teeth are carefully grounded down.
yes, i hate those regular keys which aren't carefully grounded... the risk of electric shock is a grave threat that they face.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."
