I havn't really posted much on this forum, but I thought that episode of Jeopardy was great. I was a little pissed when he said the "hooves" answer was wrong, but I'm glad they sorted it out. Great win. Do you get to go back on again and defend your title?

The Leader(s)/Oranizer(s) of Hacker Jeopardy were ready to have their subforum published about 1 month after con last year! But I had to be a buzzkill and wait until DC14 discussions slowed down.

The HJ for DC15 is open, and there is a signup thread as well as a discussion thread. Both are live and ready to accept posting.

Finally watched it. Nice job. A few headsmackers were missed, but I can understand the brain freezing with the lights and everything.

Hmmm. I think this needs to end up on the DC filler next year.

I think Mr. Big winner needs to buy the first round as well... :)

LOL, rub it in. I have agonized about that ever since. I totally knew that--just froze up. For heaven's sake, they are advertising 300 like crazy!

Bang up job on Jeporady, man. I'm watching my Tivo'd copy right now. Nice recovery on the 'hoof' question, but I have to admit I'm a tad disappointed. You've been to defcon, yet didnt get the 'Mohawk' question. What gives? :)

Also, what was up with that final jeporady question? That was a gimme, I cant believe you were the only one who got it. Heck, I dont even follow football and I was screaming 'Buffalo Bills' at the teevee.

I was quite amused at the thermopylae question though. My signature is the battle cry from the battle of Thermopylae

...this, of course, would have nothing to do with my affiliation with Jeremy or a certain CTF team referenced during his Jeopardy appearance.

I watched that one part where the scholar(?) lady got the hard drive answer wrong when they pulled it out of the chassis, and showed it to her before hand.

It was a standard ATX Tower with a IDE drive. Wonder how a career IT person got such an entry level question wrong especially when she seen them remove, and display the component(or was that just shown to the television audience? Still though.)

She answered 4 times in a row guessing everything from "graphics card" to "optical disk drive" before getting buzzed. After this, and the mess over on the toms hardware forums I'm seriously thinking of applying for a software engineering position at NASA R&D cause I must be a friggin' genius.

I finally got my big chance to go on the show, and during my mid-game banter with Alex Trebek after the first commercial break, I got to mention Defcon.

They ask you ahead of time for a number of talking points, but you never know what Alex is going to pull.

I think I said something along the lines of how it was our team's goal to qualify for CTF (I called it the world championship of hacking) at this year's Defcon...

No, I cannot divulge the outcome of the J! game ahead of time, and I did not get a chance to bet $1337, but I had a fun time. w00t!!

Also the first time I've watched Jeopardy in .. 10 years? Damn Alex is getting old! They're preserving hm pretty well, but his growing senility is quite humorous. Is is just me, or have questions/competition gotten insanely more difficult? .. or maybe I'm that much more braindead ... I remember being able to answer a lot more questions as a kid.. also remember much more unanswered or incorrectly answered questions, people screwing up format, etc. You all were impressive,
Thanks, and thanks for the torrent.

Alex was pretty funny. I think he's still sharp--maybe he was just showing end of day fatigue, since they shoot a whole week in one day.

I agree the competition is probably tougher now that they have the online exam. I doubt we will see another 74-game winner like Ken Jennings.

They now have a way to identify the top players right away with better objectivity. Before, for example, if they had a tryout in NYC, they would have 10,000 people registering for 200 tryout spots. It was completely random whether they would actually find qualified contestants, because they drew postcards or emails at random. Now, with the online test, if they have 100,000 people taking it, they simply invite the top, say, 1% to live tryouts. They're already assured of getting some of the best players. There were definitely no slouches among the people I taped with, I can assure you!

In a way, I'm glad Julie was so strong, and the game wasn't a runaway; because that forced me to bet more on Final Jeopardy, and so I ended up winning more!
