  • New NY Fine/ ipods are minions of death.

If you get hit by a car crossing the street there are only a few short explanations. None of which I NEED to explain to you guys. I'm also sure you are aware of natural selection.

Just thought I would share. I'm not posting to start the conversation of if the law is right or wrong. I am Curious though to hear some stories, of when an electric device or gadget nearly got you killed? I've personally done some stupid things causing me to get a good shock. I've not been able to feel my tounge once or twice, and just recently I ran into a door because I was composing an email. Anyone else wanna share?

Bloggers Rail Against Proposed N.Y. iPod Fine
It'll cost you to cross the street while booging to your iPod, chatting on the phone or checking email.

    From the article:

    By Antone Gonsalves,InformationWeek
"State Sen. Carl Kruger's bill, scheduled to be introduced Wednesday, would actually ban the use of any electronic device in a crosswalk. So besides iPod users, the proposal would also target people talking on mobile phones, checking email on their Blackberries or playing videogames on a portable console." .......

"Would someone please clue in Mr. Kruger people are sometimes retarded, and you can't fix stupid," a blogger in Kruger' home district of Brooklyn said on Pervasivelight 5.0

Ryan Jones of Dotcult agreed, adding, "What's next? Banning deaf people from crossing streets as well?"

Kruger was spurred into action by the deaths of three pedestrians who started crossing the street while distracted by an electronic device, according to the Reuters news agency. "Government has an obligation to protect its citizenry," Kruger told Reuters. "This electronic gadgetry is reaching the point where it's becoming not only endemic, but it's creating an atmosphere where we have a major public safety crisis at hand."

Lets see it's not quite the same but I electrocuted myself when I was winding up a extention cord that was pluged in, damn frayed insulation.
There is nothing more dangerous than people with a little knowledge. Which means society is mostly safe.

stupid. stupid. stupid. do politicians even listen to themselves anymore?? "endemic"?!? a "crisis"?!?!!

yes, in a city ravaged by murder, drug addiction, theft, it's the iPods that are the real threat.

this new law brought to you by the same type of politicians who banned lawn darts.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

I recently (mid December) was hit by a truck while crossing the street while not using any electronic gadgetry... my knee still hurts if I kneel.

Last time I was electrocuted was a couple of years ago with a refrigerator built in the 1940's when I would try to open it while barefoot. Checked the wiring and it literally crumbled when touched... replaced the wires and it became the best beer fridge on the block.

Routinely burn myself with a soldering iron, does that count?

Couple years back i was in Italy, not far from Rome (and its known that noone knew how to drive there ) i was eye-witness of 2 facts :
the first - a girl around 18 years old drove out secondary road to highway composing sms, i barely drifted around her opel on my bmw, the speed was something like 100 m/h, and she had a lesson of explicit russian.
the second - i was standing on the intersection in suburb of Rome, waiting for traffic-controller signal, the traffic was heavy, a man standing because of the same reason in front of me, unfolded a newspaper on his Fiat's steering wheel.

Are there some manual transmissions in us ?? ))
So try to drive through intersection on manual transmission to the right holding your cell phone in your right hand.

              Yes, it counts.

I routinely shock myself whilst replacing parts on my computer. I seem to have the audacity to think I can fix, repair, replace things in electronic devices whist still plugged in. It's my worst habit in the actually. I love taking stuff apart, I just have no patience for things like..unplugging things from the wall.. putting it all back together...not doing it on the carpet....

The worst one was fixing my PS2. I took the case off and while it was plugged in was adjusting the ...little spinny thing....for lack of knowing what the hell it was... So it would read my discs properly. My reasoning was it took too long to unplug it, re-case it, test it, rinse and repeat. So I skipped a few steps and as a result I had a rather bad a$$ scar i could claim actually came from a play station. ( I did fix it )

I have a bracelet, its a big heavy "until there is a cure band", I've worn it almost constantly for 8 years give or take... That damn bracelet has gotten me zapped a lot. Whenever it touches the inside of any electronic device i get a short and sweet, "hello stupid, nice to meet you"!

Recently, I stepped out of the shower and onto my USB charger, with a wet foot.....hilarity ensued.

You're not the only one. I replaced a few wall outlets without turning off the circuit breaker. Not a very smart idea. It's not as if I knew I wouldn't get shocked because I did.

I teach a couple of introductory electromagnetism labs, so we play with circuits a lot. Being a physics lab, the components leak charge everywhere and I'm too busy to care to turn off the power, so I get zapped by a power supply of some sort at least a couple times a week when fixing their circuits.

But then again, I thought it was fun to stick my fingers in the outlets in the walls (in Europe) when I was 3ish years old.

That's not much of a challenge! Eating a burrito from taco bell, texting, and lighting a cigarette is more of my style. You learn to adapt, my knees have become an excellent driving tool.

As far as the law they wish to introduce, I don't understand how not hearing whats going on will prevent you from getting hit. The sound of a horn maybe will warn you to GTFO, but I would like to know how many I-Pod caused deaths/injuries can back that legislation up. Not to mention that they want to ban them in crosswalks? This must mean that you have the rightaway to cross anyways and the I-pod will enrage drivers to aim for you.

*note to self, suicide by i-pod crosswalk method...flawless*

Last event where i had an electronic device and a car almost kill me was when I walked directly in front of an electric car. Damn thing was so quiet I didnt hear it comming. One of those Saturn EV1 electric vehicles that looks like a large butt plug. Guy said 'hey watch it' I apologized and suggested he get some sort of siren or warning klaxon installed so people can hear him coming.

I return whatever i wish . Its called FREEDOWM OF RANDOMNESS IN A HECK . CLUSTERED DEFEATED CORn FORUM . Welcome to me

When I first got my shiny new laptop, I took it out for a war-drive.
Long story short, a tree jumped out into the street and struck my car.

I love when people insinuate that Natural Selection, and Darwinism are real systems. It's like saying a spirit exists that saves cut throat materialists in the confines of a spiritual institution at the end of every work week(no offense.)

I'll probably die before 40, but not because I'm stupid. It's because I sit in front of computer at work, and at home, and the only time I eat is when my glucose is so low that I feel drunk. Then I eat something that is black listed by every calorie deficit under the sun.

If I seen someone get hit in NYC I'd stick to local tradition, and say I didn't see anything.
