  • Google, Anonymous at last!

I break from my usual silence to bring news that Google will finally anonymize its search services. This, among other things, will make it harder for Google searches to be used in court prosecutions.

When you search on Google, we collect information about your search, such as the query itself, IP addresses and cookie details. Previously, we kept this data for as long as it was useful......we will anonymize our server logs after a limited period of time.....but will make this data much more anonymous, so that it can no longer be identified with individual users.

Maybe this just means they don't need IPs to uniquely identify people anymore

behavior analysis should be good enough. Especially since people like to Google their own name.

There is that, also the thought crossed my mind when I first heard about this that it's all retained elsewhere, making 'Googles' logs somewhat redundant.
