www.deathrace2k.org is back up for all your caravan / ridesharing / roomsharing needs. Yeah, the main page says otherwise, but all other content is ready to go. And the BBS is up, too, at www.deathrace2k.org/phpBB/ .

Incidentally, to quelch any rumours to the contrary: www.deathrace2k.org and www.moloch.org/cannonball/ (the DefCon Cannonball Run) are a) not in competition with each other, and b) not sanctioned DefCon events. Participate in either at your own risk; neither DefCon nor the respective organising bodies of either event will be held liable for any consequences of participation. Thanks for playing. Right. Boog and I figured out that we'd have something tangible (and useful) in place for http://www.deathrace2k.org this weekend. All y'all looking for a ride to Defcon or place to stay keep yer eyes peeled and we'll sort this shit out, I swear.

FYI - De-railment

Just for the record, this is not to compete with the caravan or deathrace. I discussed this with many people before the idea because public. The reason it exists is to have another option. It is just for fun, not competition with things that have existed before the idea.

As long as all participents know that it is not an offical Defcon event, sounds fun.

DefCon Cannonball Run - for anyone

This event has not been discussed with DefCon staff since it is in it's first year. I sent one email, it was not responded to. This event is not affiliated with Defcon, it is just a way to Defcon, trying to keep the highlight the Con itself. We are just going to have fun, and if Dom Deluise will join us, all the better.

Tommee forgot to mention that this event is not an officialy sanctioned Defcon event. Defcon cannot be held liable if you dress up as Dom Deluise and drive an ambulance to Vegas. Seriously tho, we (the defcon staff) have nothing to do with this.

DefCon Cannonball Run - still shameless

As another way to go to DefCon, try the First Annual DefCon Cannonball Run. The race will start in Redondo Beach, California. Each Team Member will pay $5 to go into a pot for the winning teams bar tab. The race will start on August 1st about noon, and racers will be 5 minutes apart. It is a race against time. First team with the lowest time, wins a night of free drinks, as long as the money holds up. Yeah, I have sortof figured that one out.
Don't worry, I conatcted Skrooyo, and we've worked it out. The dr2k forum will be done soon, and all forum members will be encouraged to visit the dr2k forum for ride/room sharing and caravan planning.
A misunderstanding, on my part. But its all worked out now.

ya, I wouldnt mess with the existing Deathrace2k board. The SoCal caravan's probably the longest running and most established caravan (started around Defcon 3 if I remember right). The web bbs that supports it has been used with great success the last two years, not just for the California caravan, but for organizing rooms and ride sharing for folks all over the US and into Canada. As the saying goes, if it aint broke, dont fix it.
The Deathrace2k bbs was also used as a meeting web board during Defcon last year and it worked out great..not everyone has a laptop or can get their email (or want to in that environment), but you can get just about anyone to let you borrow a browser for 5 minutes..

Please check your e-mail. I wrote a very lengthily letter which explains my idea, and how it will not conflict with yours. In fact, if our ideas interfere, I will gladly drop my campaign (for a ride/room sharing forum) and aid yours. I should have not been as vague.

Excuse me, but when exactly was it decided that you are doing this? We've run the ridesharing board for the last two years, and have had absolutely no communication from anyone in senior staff saying that you're assuming responsibility for it.

We have a new backend and HTML nearly ready to go. Final testing is underway, and neither of us are willing to just let it drop because someone neither of us knows just sorta decides that he's gonna take it over.

If this is a problem, allow me to suggest that you attend next month's L.A. 2600 (http://www.la2600.org) meeting, and we can discuss it further.
