Ahh, February. The time of year when most people are freezing their asses off in several feet of snow, but the SoCal contingent remains relatively tropical and begins planning the annual run from L.A. out to Defcon.
For anyone not familiar with the run, the site's at http://www.deathrace2k.org and contains full info for meeting points, the ride and room sharing forums, details on what to bring in the way of radio gear, and info on Desert Crossing Radio, the rolling pirate radio station that goes out with us. Last year we had 50 cars, which is pretty damn big when stretched out in a line down I-15. Believe me on this.
We're still pretty much going to be posting last year's info at this stage, which is fine - things aren't going to change much, and this is more or less just a pre-announcement. But there are a few things that will which are fairly important.
Firstly, we no longer meet in front of Dave & Buster's at Ontario Mills. In order to keep the Mall Ninja Security Strike Force complacent to our presence, we've relocated, but the exact spot has yet to be finalised. We're not going somewhere other than Ontario Mills, though - the meeting spot will still be *somewhere* in there. We just have to figure out exactly where. Info will be up on the site as soon as we have it.
Next up: we had a fiasco last year at Ontario Mills with people on FRS calling the wrong meeting point and continuing to do so despite being told to knock it off. Again, this did not improve relations with the Mall Ninja Security Strike Force and played hell with getting everyone organised to go, so we're going to circumvent this problem this year by *only* making announcements over Desert Crossing Radio - if you don't hear it on 104.7 FM, it's not a real announcement, plain and simple.
Lastly, there's a small surprise in store for y'all regarding the radio station. It's something that we've wanted to do for some time, and it looks like it's going to happen this year. Once we have it a bit more solid, we'll... Nah. You'll see when you get there.
I will also try to not lock my keys in my car ten minutes before departure this year, but am not making any promises.
So there ya have it. To blatantly rip off Boog's traditional closing, hope to see y'all there again and spot some new faces in the process.
