I agree! This is one reason why I am glad to be working with security policies - the admin "rules" side of it - like HR for IT. Although I know this isn't going to fix everything or keep people from doing malicious or stupid things, every little bit helps :)

Unfortunately, I am not at the con Render. I have never been to one and want to change that. But back to the point.

Let me know what you have in mind and I will see if I am worthy of this since I am not sure what I can contribute, but will try if I can!

My concern with it, is the data base behind it. Who would use it outside of medical needs, abuse of the technology, and security of said data...etc.

I worked at a bank once that was involved in tax refunds. The lack of security is simply amazing! There were more than 100 temporary tech. support personnel brought in during the tax season to provide support for the tax software. They were provided access to the tax info of every client that e-filed through the participating tax preparer. Any one of the support personnel could've just walked out at the end of their temporary employment with tons of private info, including social security numbers, checking account numbers, names and addresses. They simply signed an employment agreement that stated that they wouldn't do so.
In the business world it seems that security is an after thought.

Most of the planning is in my head and was going to be sorted out after con. See me in the wireless village during con, remind me who you are and about this, we can talk.

The bigger problem is the lack of sane data in the debate.

The technology has it's uses but there is so much FUD out there that people can't participate in the discussions because they have no clue what's real and what's hype. the folks at spychips do good work, but as Thorn pointed out, the religious overtones can go a little far.

To that end, once I've sobered up from Defcon I'm planning on starting a new project to actually put the manufacturer community , the tin foil hat community and the religious communities 'claims' and fears to the test ala Mythbusters.

If your interested in helping, sponsoring or contributing, get ahold of me here or at con.

Although the article kind of made it sound like the people with the chips had no choice, I think there are some people that would not care if they had them and for those people, no one really can be irate.

I am not sure how I feel about it, but many times I have wished I could put a super micro drive of 1TB in size in my arm so I could carry anything I need with me :)!

With some trepidation at approaching the P&R ban, I find it weird that there is a strong bias against this by the so-called "Christian conservatives" because they equate RFID to the "Mark of the Beast." I ran into this when researching RFID Security and still think it is absolutely bizarre.

Those who are concerned about civil liberties might have some reason to discuss this as a potential area for future abuse by governments, but the much of what passes for fact associated with this subject is completely without basis and is nothing more that our old trio of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. Most of what has been claimed as possible abuses of RFID technologies just cannot happen with the present state of the art.

Yes, there was an article last year about a school (in th UK?) that was looking to track their students.

It is a good topic. :-)

We haven't talked about it in a while.
