Thanks, but I'm already reserved at St. Tropez for 2 days, and will probably stay on strip for a few days before the con. Since I may bring my guns for the shoot, I'm not too keen on having people I don't know there. We can hook up though. Do you ever go to the 2600 meetings downtown?

Yes you got a point. Its only me and a friend... do you want to share rooms with us? We didnt get the room at alexis - we got a quad room next door (5 sec. away by walk) at the ST TROPEZ. If you want we can let you get a bed there -- all 3 nights -- $100.

Unless you specifically wanted to drive, flying is a cheaper alternative. It's 3650 miles round trip, which will cost you close to $200-$250 in gas (not to mention general car expense). Plus it's 33 hours each way.
I considered driving out there this year. I'm 32 and if I did I'd probably rent a car and leave a weekish before the con and spend the week on the road, taking advantage of the chance to see America. I'd try to get into Vegas about Wed or Thurs, on a 33hour drive that's about 6-10 hours driving a day. I'd rent the car so I could leave it there, and take a flight back on Sunday afternoon.
Of course, when ya figure the cost of rental and the usual 1-way fee, and a coule hotels along the way, you're paying a huge premium over flying.
Taking your own car would save you a few bucks off the rental, but you probably lose just about as much in depreciation of the car. If you have 3 or 4 people going, that difuses the cost a bit but you end up saving maybe $100 for the round trip but the price is being stuck in a car for 50 hours longer than you'd be in the airport/plane.
I also considered taking the Bus. A ticket is $129 from Chicago to Vegas. $250 round trip. But thats the same as a flight and takes nearly 32 hours longer.
Amtrak is also an option, but you have to connect through Needles CA and that is $280 round trip...
... so you're back to flying.
Of course, it's easier to bring drugs and other stuff via car than via plane.
