  • wireless at the Riv?

i am trying to remember what was offered in terms of network in the Riviera rooms. if i recall it is wireless only with a pay for use captive portal? is authentication based on MAC address?

i was hoping to share out one legit connection with the other folks i am traveling with. i could bring a wireless router with a bridge function, but i don't see an easy way to use that in combo with a captive portal setup. or could i just login with a laptop, pay for the service and then spoof the MAC address on the AP in bridge mode?

    any ideas would be welcome.

Hotel wireless <-> laptop <-> ethernet connection to a wireless router? Configure the laptop to route between the hotel wireless and the router?

      /fed without an EVDO card...

Looking over my Defcon after action report, the need of an EVDO card or a phone with EVDO service (PAM) Phone as Modem is right there at the top of the list.

My VPN borked and I found myself pretty much not using my laptop for most of the conference.

Sprint is having a sale on their cards, $60 with unlimited service for another $60 a month. Money well spent if you don't want your details ending on the Wall of Sheep!

Yep. That was the only access I could get was via my EVDO tethering to my Blackberry. And where my room was position that was even iffy sometimes. Unless of course I wanted to utilize the F'ing Golden Tree wireless service.

In retrospect though, EVDO was probably safer considering the Con. hah.

ya know, it being the same companies year in and year out that host the wifi there, im surprised there hasn't been a gorilla article on how to hack one of them yet <_<...

me and some friends made a wifi network in the middle of the redwood forest during a camping trip... it involved a satalite wifi router, a very expensive computer, 2 nintendo DSs and 3 psps. it was fun, but i think that alt. to the ancient satalite that one of guys hacked for part of the week, he had to pay like 1.75USD per minute. a little expensive, but i could go that route
