Certifications

What certification would you recommend as a must have.

SANS
Cisco
Microsoft
Linux
...etc

I have a BS Degree in Computing Technology already. I of course dig wireless, security and networking so I'm thinking Cisco; any thought people.?

What do you want to do? What type of a job are you seeking?

Having certifications are good but a CISSP will not help you get a job as a penetration tester or a WAN Engineer. The certification you need will depend on the job.

A good thing to check is searching Monster or whatever job search company you use, and look for how often the cert is mentioned in a job description. That should give you an idea of what employers are asking for in job reqs.

Yep, the first link I clicked on there was today's. There's a few certs on there I've never even heard of! And... i probably won't be getting a sonic firewall one anytime soon since only 6 jobs showed up for that! I have an A+ cert so far, going for more.

But also... as was mentioned before up there, certs are only sort of resume candy...there's a lot of people who will hire because you have a cert and there's an equal number of people out there who don't take them with a grain of salt. It all goes back to the experience thing.
