aah you have an element, seen one of those the other day, they are cool.
i will fly since we will be coming from siggraph in san diego that friday and i would like to get there by midnight.
I dont own an element, but I saw one the other day, and it made me ask.....who is doing the research into designing these cars?
ok, now i want to request a picture of the element. and why not your RX7, you seem far too into it.

It's a Japanese Pontiac Aztek.
This stupid SUV fad has gone on way past its date of expiration.

Tell me chicks stare at YOUR car! I love it! I knew I had a good car when Bartender jumped in the back and said, "Now THIS is a wardriving vehicle!" There is more room in the back seats than in a first class airline seat.
I guess that answers the question...yes I did buy it. Traded in my CR-V.
I have all my wardriving gear in the back, and since the sunroof is back there it's perfect for the antenna and the GPS. No more crowding up front.

Nowhere near. I'm just tired of:
a) Being stuck behind some box I can't see through or around
b) Vehicles whose physical appearance is completely at odds with their actual capabilities
c) Vehicles (and this includes pick-ups, *especially* rivertrashed pick-ups) that are not used for their 'intended' purpose, but rather driven like total shit by asshole owners who seriously seem to believe that their vehicle accords them the right to drive without regard for other road users
d) Consumers who don't understand that these things do not handle like passenger cars (in yesterday's one day of rain, I saw three rolled/crashed SUVs)
e) Consumers who do not understand that neither ABS nor 4WD is a substitute for paying attention while driving
With the exception of b), my objections are mainly on the grounds of safety. About seven times out of ten, a), c), d), and e) are caused by someone in an SUV or truck.
My everyday car is the size of a Honda Accord, so we're not asking them to do anything special to look out for me here. People get in these things, figure 'gee, I'm safe', and switch off.
Need something with an assload of carrying capacity? Get an old Volvo or Peugeot wagon and save a bunch of money.
Need on- and off-road 4WD? Get a Subaru. Need better off-road capability? Get an old Jeep, Land-Rover, or similar, and a Toyota for everyday use.
Oh, and fuck the manufacturers for pandering to this. *Porsche* makes a fucking SUV (http://www2.us.porsche.com/english/usa/cayenne/cayenneturbo/default.htm) now, for chrissakes. Knowing the inability of the locals to successfully pilot their Suburbans in a light mist, I really do not want to think about what happens when these things are capable of 160mph and driven by accountants in the throes of a midlife crisis.
And rivertrashed trucks are nature's way of saying 'remove me from the gene pool'. Fuck those people.

I dunno. Speaking as someone who was a biker before the SUV boom hit, *everyone* is an asshole when you're on a bike.

The bad rap SUVs have, I'm still a bit lost. What about vans? Are they not the same? Or are they exempt from hate because you can have sex in them? They are just as hard to see around at stops.
Not to mention they are DAMNED slow. If I get to a light and one lane has 6 cars in it and the other lane has one vehicle ony and it is a van, I get behind the 6 cars. It's like women in ATM lines...what the heck are they doing!?!

Good god though, have you seen what people do to the SUV's. They raise them 24", put skid plates on them, put in high performance parts that half mpg. Then they use it as a daily driver from home to best buy never ever seeing dirt. That's why noone attacks vans.

Fuck river trash. If you live in area codes 714, 909, or 949 you're at ground zero for this sort of thing: just look for the 'Remove 4 River' trailer hitch cover, personalised licence plate that reads something like 'RVR4EVR', NASCAR stickers, and driver in Black Flys sunglasses who clearly runs with the bigs dogs because he is a bad ass boy with a bad ass toy as per the sticker in the rear window.
In last week's rain, I saw three of these morons who had gone out in their jacked-up trucks, found out what sand tires do on wet pavement, and either rolled them or stuffed them into something else on the freeway; one had rolled over onto another car. They probably took the truck because it was raining, and with the extreme climactic conditions created by a couple of days' worth of drizzle at least two feet of ground clearance was required just to get to the mall in order to stock up on Bad Boy Club tank tops and Coors Light 24-ouncers in case civilization as we know it was washed away.
Oh, and yeah, minivans annoy me because they block my view about as much as SUVs do - but I do actually see minivans with more than one person in them on a fairly regular basis, so at least they're being used somewhat efficiently more of the time.

Pickups are the worst. The ones I see are either carrying nothing, or carrying 12x their maximum weight. In CA pickups are commercial vehicles, I see them on constructions sites but no where else do they really do their work.
The seats do not recline as well as in a car or van, there is no trunk or place to secure stuff. What's the point? To look cool driving it?
Another thing that is ridiculous: Porsches or Corvetes doing 65 in a 65.

In TX, EVERYONE has a truck. A lot of people actually use them, but even more don't. The problem with the ones that do is that they can't afford another car for when they're not using them. So, they've got this big ole pickup for hauling their boat, which gets a good deal of use in the summers, but it's also their every day commuter. Then, of course, you've got the folks that deck out their trucks for offroading, and then are afraid to do so much as run over a speed bump with it.

I still remember my times in Texas. If you did not have a truck you were considered a tourist.

Ya think they'll be welcomed back in Texas?!

OOohhhhh... it's NOT pretty here. The radio stations have stopped playing them, FORMER fans have gathered publicly to smash cd's/tapes and burn memorabilia. It has gotten VERY ugly, and their little apology didn't change any minds.

Yeah, but there's a good reason for that: sports car == target. Cops love pulling over anything they know is fast and/or expensive.

Now if we can only get all of the boy bands to do the same.. I would attend a lynching of them!
