View Full Version : DCR 104.7FM Requests

For those of you unfamiliar with it, Desert Crossing Radio 104.7FM (http://www.deathrace2k.com/?p=comms.2k3) is the SoCal Caravan's rolling pirate radio station. Accompanying the caravan on the Ontario Mills - Las Vegas leg of the trip, it belts out a mix of a little bit of everything for everyone.
Here's your chance to shape DCR's programming: post your requests only in this thread, and we'll do our best to accomodate them. See y'all at the end of July!

Y'mean I don't get to be DJ Meglomaniac? I like programming the radio station tho... *shrug*
What people have to say won't fall on deaf ears but I find so much new music year in and out that with all the submited sets last year I barely had time to play everything I wanted to. The folks that were on the caravan know that DCR caters to everyone - or at least we try to. Everything from Johnny Cash to Underworld to Mos Def to Me First And The Gimme Gimmes is fair game.
So if you have a band that you rather enjoy here's your chance to offer it up to the proverbial tiki gods. If I can find a place in the playlist for it I'll drop it in there.
Some bands - no matter how many requests they get will not be played. These bands include Limp Bizkit, Nickelback, Linkin Park and anything else that falls under the nu-metal category. In fact if it's on your local [alternative/electronic/whatever] station chances are almost everyone on the caravan is tired of it [myself included] and it won't get played. People who request pop will be mocked more than the people who ask for nu-metal. Requests for tunes that are popular on Dr. Demento will also most likely be ignored.
To make matters confusing, I'll take mash-ups and bootleg mixes into heavy consideration. If there's an entertaining mix of something like the vocals from Maddona's "Ray Of Light" over the guitar riff from the Sex Pistols "God Save The Queen" and it's actually pretty good it'll probably get played. And someone will probably yell about it. And I won't care.
So get some requests in, stat. Even if you're not coming out on the caravan we can always use some decent tunes to get us out there.
I may or may not be a part of one of the caravans, but here are my tunes.
KMFDM-Anarchy
MDFMK-Missing Time
Bad Religion-21 century digital boy
DJ Tiesto-Any
Lautsprecher-Omnibus, Oriental Express, and Computer

The Dead Kennedys version of "Viva Las Vegas" [with a special "Fear And Loathing" intro] always makes the playlist.
I am considering a "Tribute To Elvis" as we roll into Vegas including:
The Vandals :: "Heartbreak Hotel"
Brian Setzer [feat. Gwen Stefani] :: "You're The Boss"
The Toy Dolls :: "Blue Suede Shoes"
Blues Brothers :: "Jailhouse Rock"
and a couple others.

This year, I intend to return triumphant with yet another installment of songs either vaguely or directly connected to the New Wave era. I plan to do this primarily because Nu-Metal sucks, and has fruitily stolen and distorted the 'New' prefix from what was actually a decent type of music. Therefore, there must be de-evolution, my little spudlets.
My recommendations are: Frontline Assembly, Snake River Conspiracy, The Shizit, and Brujeria.

Just some songs that would be cool to get airplay.
Because they got so little play when they came out... Right?
Actually, I normally refuse to play Metallica because of that whole Napster debacle but I'll take your request into consideration. On the upside of things I think I've played "Sober" almost every year. Not about to stop. And wow, Bone Thugs... I'm gonna have to dust off an old mp3 cd but I think I've got one or both of those kicking around somewhere.

I'll donate Die Krupps' version from the Tribute to Metallica album. Having heard Metallica's version on both KROQ and KLOS today alone, a bit of variety might not hurt.

Do a google search for BUSTED.WAV and other stuff like it, those can be the "commercials" on the radio station. I'd upload it but it's over a meg.

Anthrax: I am the law, Hy Pro Glo, room for one more...... (Just make sure cruise control is set before hand)
Iron Maiden: Number of the beast... 7th son of a 7th son, only the good die young
Maybe some mostly oldschool ozzy, early sabbath stuff. just about anything from the paranoid album How about Electric Funeral
Alice Cooper: just about anything would probably work for driving from point A to point B.
Megadeth: Symphony of Destruction, Chosen ones, and of course, the killing road.
Hope these help y'all figure out some filler for the long haul.
If I had to pick a few songs
Aphex Twin - come to daddy (classic)
Fear Factory - linchpin (Their best song)
Gwar - SadamaGoGo (He's back in the news, and the song is still good)
Primus - electric uncle sam (Because its primus)
Digitial Underground - freaks (80s hip hop IS still cool!)
StaticX - Push it (They don't suck, despite earlier protest)
I think people will get sick of vegas lounge music very fast, leave the vegas lounge music for home when your remembering the fun you had at defcon...
