Did u check to see if it was under accessories? IF it was totally removed then you need Admin priv to reinstall the short cut.

Provided you have some way of opening the task manager you can invoke a new task by clicking on the "New Task" button.

However if the system has been locked down it's likely this has been disabled as well.

Holding down thw Windows key and pressing 'R' will get you the "Run..." dialog. You could also type in the path to the command prompt (if it's in the default directory) in explorer.

You don't specifically need to be able to get at cmd.exe or the Run dialog to be able to send messages via the messaging service. There are many downloadable clients that will do what you're looking for. Assuming that the machine hasn't been locked down to disallow running downloaded executables, this may be a viable option.

                getting cmd with when run=disabled

Asuming you are still allowed to create tekst files or shortcuts here is an easy one:

                1. Open an explorer window
                2. Choose file\create shortcut.

                3. now in the create shortcut wizard on NT boxes type cmd.exe ('it is in the path so windfoes '' should' 'find it')
Are U on a Win9x box then create a shortcut to ' command'

If this doesn't word create a empty tekst file and put in the following code:

                REM *********** CMD Promt ******************
                REM ***************************************
                %windir%\command

Now save the file as "cmd.bat" yes the quotes are necesary to stop windows from giving the file the default .txt extention.

Open either explorer or Internet explorer and type in the address bar or location bar the full path to cmd executable...e.g. C:\WINNT\System32\cmd.exe

assuming it has been "removed" and it is your computer, extract it from .cab so it works....if that is not the case, and it's a school/others computer that has tried to limit resources, notice the OS, go to http://www.bootdisk.com/ if you do not have one made already, and get a bootable floppy - hell, you can even automate your task with an advanced batch file if you know dos....

We had to lock down a windows 2000 computer here at work.

There is a registry key that you can turn the run prompt off with

                      http://fox2k.net/2ktweaks/security.htm

Just thought that was a bit interesting.
