Dodgeball would be a change of pace. The possibilities for match ups are great. You could do Goons vs. Feds, have local DC Groups against each other, any asshat from the past year that happens to show itself vs. Forum mods. It'd be a good Saturday afternoon thing.
Plus, drunk people and dodgeball always equals loads of fun. :)

If only dodgeball weren't so horribly cliche now. That damn movie ruined it. I miss throwing rubber balls at my friends and laughing maniacally.

I keep thinking that the Shmoocon, shmoobals are a great idea, however I think at Defcon, it's not a good idea to throw anything, especially with the number of bottles nearby...

Have to agree with Render on that one; we've had enough paramedic issues as it is.

That could work out well. Toxic Dodgeball sounds catchy too.

Screw dodgeball.. it would be more fun to use spud guns. Goons vs. Asshats. Be a douche on the board, you get to be a spud catcher.

They do exist......(oblique M&M commercial reference corrolated to this thread to suit my purposes; that being the suprise that there are in fact professional dodgeball teams.)

...and everytime you got hit with the ball, you had to do a shot (of the judges choosing). But, everytime you caught the ball, the thrower has to do TWO shots (one choice by the judge, one choice by the crowd)...

Great! A bunch of people trying to get hit by a bunch of people who want their throws caught. I remember Drunken Whores" method for winning in Hacker Jeopardy when the "beer points" system was added. :-)

I'm not sure if the analogy works. The organizers/audience originally added the beer points as a result of the extreme "effort" on the part of the drinkers. It was not, originally, the other way around.
In other words, the drinking is a given; spahkle's suggestion just gives the participants an excuse.

Dodgeball with a drinking point system at the TBBQ. I can now die happy.

I wonder if the corelation of not so internet security topics and this forum might bring more asshats here (not bashing just thinking in terms of internet security corelation 101)

I see the forums mirror DefCon itself...
There are technical discussions, there are social discussions, there is lamer harassment, and there is a little planning/organization. (It is many things to many people.)
Even though I probably would not participate in DodgeBall, it would be entertaining enough to watch. :-)

Somewhere, back in the mists of time, I recall something about DefCon being a "party" thrown by DT for his friends to share tech and have fun. Now, if this thread had popped up in 'Computer Security' I could see getting your panties all in a twist, but it didn't. We're trying to think of ways we can have good, clean haxorish fun without getting arrested. The challenge is already mind numbing, don't make it more difficult by having it relate to something serious.
I would watch/officiate a game of dodgeball, but I would not play. It sounds like it could be fun at the TBBQ, but then, so would a water balloon fight. WRT dodgeballing near the pools and the fear of bottles; does Vegas have a 'pay-by-the-pound' recycling program?? It would be kind of cool to see if we (et al) could collect all bottles/cans etc. in a central recycling location and collect money for a charity. This would encourage folks to *not* leave bottles around (despite the rules about glass near the pools), thereby preventing injury while raising money.
The EFF Dunk Tank last year was the shiznit. We should be able to come up with other ways to raise money for worthwhile non-partisan charities.
note: Beware of 206 dodgeballers... those people like to play with their balls way too much.
no defCon dodgeball.

Some of us bruise very eaisly ya know!
I'd be up for some sort of spot type activity, esp.. if it's at night so there is no chance of the dreaded sunburn/hives.
If you are so determined to revert back to grade school why not have a defcon field day?

let me simplify... we are geeks... the two things we see less often than a shower are The Sun, and Girls... lets not worry about The Sun we all know that thing sucks... but I am sure the fairer sex has learned to run at a decent clip since hanging out with us (due mostly to pursuit by the males of this community) ... in closing "the guys run like girls and the girls have figured out that all they have to do to get away is NOT run like a girl... oh and make sure the chloroform doesn't get too close to their nose
