Just looking for some people who have modded newtons. ANYONE who's found a DECENT Java machine for it, (not waba, it isn't beefy enough) OR a network sniffer please let me know.
if you'll excuse me I'll go back to installing my new serial port... Trying to decide if audio out is worth modding on to this.. I'm guessing no, that's why we have iPods....

2. That was not random babble.
3. Have you ever watched "The Simpsons"?
4. Someone else will probably post a link to the video clip.
5. Like I said before...I dont need more posts. (Check my user title)

your first and last points were a little redundant there, don't you think?
ok I'll rephrase, it wasn't random babble, but it sure wasn't helpful babble.. yes, you're an administrator..
so, as an administrator, know any thing about apple newtons? I could use some help here.

Since you have a newton, you'll probably have quicktime installed.
http://deathstar.rutgers.edu/people/bochkay/movies/newton.qt
That might clear things up for you. If not, let me know and I'll find another copy.
About Newtons...well, uhm, not many people use them anymore. They were discontinued quite a while ago.
A good friend of mine, Freaky, knows quite a bit about Mac Security (and general mac stuff).
He runs quite a few sites, including http://freaky.staticusers.net and www.securemac.com.
I would advise checking those sites.
That useful enough for you?

very, that should point me the right way, thanks for the help nulltone ^_^
p.s.
of course they're a little old and discontinued...
I set up my friend Ipaq for wifi scanning and he said it wasn't good enough...
so I babtized it in the glory of linux for him and set it up again for WiFi scanning... he was pleased...
but unlike him I don't have 500 buxx to spend on one of them.. and the newton seemed like a fun project *shrug*

The Defcon.org server was having some DNS problems.
If it ever happens again (I doubt it), you can reach the forum at a backup URL: http://dcforum.willhaven.org

Nulltone was up over 30,000 posts at one point, but out of his benevolance decided to give blackwave and astcell a chance at the title.
Problems were DNS.. thought they were mine at first, but I guess it was something on the other end... the willhaven url worked fine

And your point is.... what, exactly?

To the person who can tell me the name (or manufacturer) of the SMP machine the Newton ultimately begat.

I just picked up a Newton MP 2100 from a friend of mine, I was going to bring it out, but he didn't have the connection cable so I can jack in a wireless nic, maybe next year.
<Proudly displays his retail copy of OS/2 Warp 4.0 and PS-DOS 7> :)

what connection cable? you mean the one that plugs into the side (that needs the dongle adapter) ??
screw that for 40 buxx you can install your own serial port...
see linkage..
http://members.tripod.com/mrpcbman/SER-001.htm
still time to order this in time for con..
that'll get your driver installed so you can bust wireless action with me...
I may be trying to set up a break away pannel where I'll discuss modding the shiznit out of your 2100

0ptik0n: That rocks! Thanks for the linkage, just ordered it. I just picked up this 2100 last week, I ran my MP 130 for a while, but just let it slide. BTW, I couldn't run across a copy of NCU (Newton Connection Utilities), you wouldn't have a copy handy would you? I've got a Dell WaveLan card that should work wireless with it, but haven't had the time or the tools to jack with it much. If nothing else, I wanna talk with you at the con so we can talk Newtons at least. :D
Thanks!

I don't have a copy of that...
but here's the link for the wireless NIC driver:
http://www.ff.iij4u.or.jp/~ngc/eng/newtwave.htm
so make sure your card is compatable with the list.
the 2100 I ordered for con STILL hasn't come to my door yet and I have to add all the mods still :P
it has till 24 hours before con before I run out of time to mod it...

when they first came out i wanted a newton sooooo bad. however, when i had the money, i went for the tandy zpda. after i loved it to pieces i went for the original sony pda, the Majik link. it had an awsome interface and you could keep cats in drawers! i still have it somewhere. then the palm personal, professional, III, then IIIC. the palm IIIC is my baby.
my favorite is still my tandy though. i remember sitting in the corner of my bedroom with my old IIe 300baud modem connected to my tandy, typing away at a 1 inch by 2.5 inch on screen keyboard.
and in response to octalpussy's "Some of the best things in life are discontinued.", i couldn't agree more.
i don't call my 1984 at&t terminal discontinued, i call it Limited Edition.
:D
