In tradition of all things con experience, here is the list starter:

Multi-Thanks:

Mfreeck - For staying behind on days that I got to do cooler things, meeting up and then putting up with my random disappearances and distractions throughout everything Defcon. For dragging my ass back to the room when I got too drunk to remember that was my destination. I love you.
BrokenCbl - Best room share evar. Very glad I got to meet you irl finally and very appreciative of all you bring to Defcon... both you and mfreeck deserve an extra hug for putting up with my post-party hurlfest.
DT and Ping - For putting up with us every year and giving so many people something to rave about every year. Your efforts make the party and have built a sub-community that extends all borders.
Grifter - One hug was not enough, next year I'm going for third base... I think $50 will get me there. Honostly, thanks for the chance to hang out and help.. the ability to be somewhere I otherwise could not, and for the skyboxen-fu. You rock.
Kampf, Com4, Cyclone, A, Veruus, Dedhed... you guys are a blast to hang out with as well as work with.
Charel - Hotel Ninjitsu at its finest.
Tom, Jeff, Nico, KC, Dom, ... I really can't remember the entire list, but if you were there you know and are most definately included: you all were great to meet and hang out with.
Octalpus - For keeping me in 'the know' and on track when I had no idea what went where.
Travis - I hope you had a kickass first year and will be back for more. Get your ass up to the Nortwest.
Paul & David - Your contribution helped kick off an awesome pre-con party and was very much appreciated by those in attendance. I owe both of you a beer or something.
Neil - Kickass artwork and otherwise an excellent person to meet.
Nikita - Likewise, and especially thanks for putting up with my discussion topics beyond my brains drunken ability to regulate speech .. I really don't talk that much when sober ;)
Neonrain - Always fun meeting up and chatting about whatever happens to surface.
LosT - I'm not gonna forget the pho, no matter how many times you stand me up ;) You poured so much into the con this year and it showed. The Mystery Box Challenge was a blast and the breakout session got my on my feet towards hardware/electronics.
Deviant, Renderman, Joe, Grifter, Thorn et al .. we were so close, yet so far. As mentioned above, the contest was just a great time and our team was no exception.
Hackerpimps - Best party of the party. Good music, good people, strippers, and totally smashed until hurting .. you folks know how to throw a party.
Chris, Neg9, Pyro, Octalpus, etc .. getting me into parties/events that I would otherwise not be a part of due to my unsociable self.
ToxicBBQ - It never ceases to amaze me. L0nd0, Siviak, Che, GM1, Spahkle, Lil Freak, Headrush, Renderman, [Syntax], ... I can't list all > 200 folks but want you to know that you affirm my faith in the hacker community. The BBQ is a completely opensource, completely adhoc event thrown together by details carved from a handful of folks and you. Not only were there more in attendence than feasible, y'all kept showing up even after it got dark. There was more meat than we could cook on the grills available, more drinks than consumable by the multitudes, and an entire truckbed of goodies that we were able to get back to the goons working their ass off while we had a blast. We got our 2 cop car event and had 0 dipshits to mess anything up. I could not have expected a better time.
GM1 - Sushicon lives. Good times were had and sentimental value only made it better. Thanks man.
Alx, Medic - ..and all, you're pretty cool Texans .. you folks also fit into my category of 'not enough damned time'. It was really nice to catch up.
Chris - You're a good man, Charlie Brown. You always have something cool to show/demo, and you're a blast to hang out with. Next year I will need to experience the pr0nomatic..
Renderman - Craziest canadian this side of the border. We shall form a posse and take care of JDumas once and for all.
Noid and Evil - You deserve a break. Thanks for making the con iron out as much as it did. Also thanks for putting up with our lateness for arrival at the buffet .. you held the hotel staff back just long enough and it was a great time.
IVU - For the liquor, your alcohol set the stage for my decending from drunk to shitfaced. .. and a chance to catch freaky without a smilebot daemon in his stead.
Mother - Finally meeting you was a definate highlight of this con, very glad you could join us.
ThePrez - For taking one for the team and kicking ass while we were having a good time.
Meee - For the surprise of seeing you in a schoolgirl uniform when I stepped out of the Ninja's Skybox. Wow. You also did well to keep folks in line while having fun .. next year you'll have to snag Yu along as well.

Apologies:
Chris - We really wanted to go to Japanese but the timing of it all really didn't work out as planned.
The TSA guy that had to search through my luggage on the way home. I really didn't mean to laugh the entire time you thoroughly inspected my fruit rollup... there's just something funny about dried applesauce.
Anyone that I accidently left off this post. Whack me over the head and I'll recall.

Wishes:
Pipes - Where were you man? Was really hoping to meet you and I know mfreeck probably feels at least twice as bummed about not catching up.
Calypso(sp?) - You're pretty cool when less under the influence .. wish we had more sober time to hang out.
Dataworm, Kai - You fit in with a bunch of folks that I caught in passing from time to time but never quite got to hang out with thoroughly. This will have to be reconcilled.
Highwizard - I call bullshit. It sucks .. I understand. It still would have been nice to have you out there with us.
Liquidfish - you also fit this category. Very nice meeting you and hopefully we can catch up more on irc.

Fuck You's:

Really only one. Asshole. Your asshattery screwed over a couple good folks and set the precedence for fucking over every party and event that followed. Way to go. Don't come back.

... ok.. this is a work in progress.

OH .. and to the Internets Jay Beale. Your posse lives on.

wow... i have no idea where to begin with all that i have to say about this year's defcon. so many awesome people, so many kickass memories. i'll take my first stab here and update it as i go along.

first and foremost

a HUGE apology is in order. i made a huge fuck-ass mistake during the closing ceremonies... i completely omitted renderman from my summary of the BCCC event. not only did he come back again this year with a blissfully simple design, he actually outperformed all the other contenders in speed, efficiency, and raw cooling power. after over three hours out in the sun my brain had become fried and we had only minutes to test render's rig. the notes i took concerning his cooling performance were on a different piece of paper and got either overlooked or miss-linked in the HTML as i scrambled to piece together the photos and slides on sunday.

while we only had enough time to do a couple cooling runs, render was able to successfully drop a beer's temperature from ~107.5° to ~30° in one minute, fourty-five seconds. i think that even beats hackajar's team in terms of largest drop in temperature. given a little more time to perfect things, i'm convinced render would have smoked everyone else. but, more details on that later when i put up the final BCCC info.

thanks and happiness

this is in no particular order since everyone was exhibiting their own degree of awesomeness...

mouse - we never have enough time together but you are always appreciated so much. thank you for bringing me into Toool-USA and being there when i need you with no questions or judgement. and thanks for hanging with me during the minibosses eventhough it was too loud on your sensetive ears.

render and grey - you two bring a light and energy to every situation that is just a pleasure to be around. i've never once seen either of you become outright angry or belligerent, no matter how frustrating things may get around you. with enough time spent in your company, maybe i could stop wanting to throw beer cans at fucktards... or at least i could cut down on my swearing. heh, i'll admit that's not likely.

chris #1 and chris #2 - so glad you guys could make it in the face of demands from work. their concerns were obviously valid, however, when it became clear that no one in the office at home could rebuild a disk array properly without the two of you there. still, i'm pleased you were with us and not back east. couldn't have run the lockpick village without people like you behind the tables so often.

doc, fiddler, and the LSI crew - continuing the comments just above, it would have been impossible for the lockpick village to happen this year had it been Toool-USA alone trying to put it on... by balancing our time and energy our two groups put on what i think was a terrific and informative show up in the skybox. you guys all rock. way to run a kickass LPCON competition, doc... keep up the good work next year, man!

the kid who got stuck in the handcuffs on the last day - thank you for maintaining such a calm, collected attitude even after it became apparent that one of your hands was trapped by some seriously broken hardware. this guy, who seemed to be about 16 years old, didn't panic even when the cuff key actually snapped apart as we tried to free him. thankfully, i was able to get him loose after about 15 minutes of fiddling, but it was quite a hair-raiser.

leïto - it was your first defcon and yet you managed to spend a lot of time contributing and helping out on so many levels. i know that during my first two (or possibly even three) defcons i wasn't in a suitable condition to help someone operate a telephone let alone run a whole side event. you kick ass, man, even amid your crazy ADD-ness.

redx, fishsticks, etc. - thanks for bringing the good vibe up our direction while we were stuck in the lockpick village... your news and reports of the madness happening down in the con were like dispatches from CNN reporters in the field. particularly humorous were summaries of the incidents that you were directly a part of.

meee - you are totally fucking amazing and cooler than you could ever accept. you have great friends and, much like render and grey, travel with this vibe that just lights up a space around you. it's not always easy being the mature one amid a group of loonies (i am very familiar with this phenomenon) but you manage to pull it off without any negativity. you kick ass on many, many levels. thank you for being my friend.

calypso - you're a cutie, inside and out... i'm really glad meee helped to get you to your first defcon. it was my pleasure to get to know you and i hope to see you around again.

xodia, twinvega, ck3k, staticblack, and the rest of NEG9 - way to keep your heads together amid things going down bad. even when some were no longer at the hotel, that didn't stop you from being determined to have a good time and continue rallying the troops for vegas-related fun. i hope and pray that a few well-placed and properly-worded letters to the right people will result in your return to the hotel.

siviak and everyone else in the international house of mojo - way to pull it together with a bitchin' party pad... i'd hope to be your neighbor in a future year at the riv.

toxic BBQ crowd - huge thanks to siv, londo, che, GM1, converge, and the other ToxicBBQ organizers for making that happen, bigger and better, this year. woohoo for grilled reindeer, baby! p.s. - GM1... sushicon owned, way to pull it together yet again.

converge, mfreek, and thorn - thanks for letting me be a part of the Nostromo crew, even if my duites with the BCCC kept me away from the LostBox contest for much of the game. next year we'll schedule things better. hope to be a part of it again if you'll allow... i'll start my eBay-ing for patches sooner, shirts for everyone in 2007!

ASTCell and DaKahuna - thanks for your help and support in getting the travelling terabyte project off the ground. without you guys, i doubt the idea could have become a reality. we'll get a web site up soon with which to post updates and news. looking forward to charting the archive's travels.

nikita - you are one bad-ass, kick-ass, sweetheart. we didn't have time to hang out or grab a cocktail in peace but it was still terrific finally meeting you. thank you immensely for the material which you slid my direction. it will be greatly appreciated by many people.

e - it was terrific that you and your woman came to defcon. i hope it lived up to my lofty descriptions that i rambled about in new york. look forward to seeing you many times again in future years.

jess and nobody - like pennies from heaven, you dropped out of the clear blue sky and made my life terrific in so many unexpected ways. thank you for the generosity, the rides, the good vibes, and the assload of free .45 ammo.

che - thanks for the homebrew which you set aside. it was highly appreciated. can't wait to finally get down to your neck of the woods so as to see the operation in full. finally will have time for that now.

everyone who participated in or came by to watch the Beer Cooling Contraptions - a competition event can't survive long without participants and spectators, but we've had respectable and increasing numbers of each so far. keep on coming out and having fun and it will always be my pleasure to kick defcon off with a friday afternoon of free beer.

laz, calypso, freaky, leïto, and the loads of other people who blew into my breathalyzer - it was hillarious to see all the people willing to check their B.A.C. reading throughout the weekend. shocked and surprised faces were priceless when it turned out that people were way less or way more loaded than they thought. i'll have to test my reader's calibration to make sure we didn't kill it, but if it's still in good working order, you can count on intoxication-guessing (a.k.a. MeningitisCon) being a returning theme in future years, as well.

the hackerpimps, the house of mojo, neg9, the pirate crew, etc. - those who host the parties get mad respect and thanks. never a shortage of boozeahol, never a shortage of tunes, and (particuarly this year) never a shortage of nakedness. perhaps a new slogan is in order... "DefCon: more strippers than HOPE, ShmooCon, and ToorCon combined"

and, of course DT, Zac, DA, Russ, all the other defcon organizers - i only crossed paths with the few mentioned here, but the army of terrific people who pull this off every year are simply outstanding. thank you. thank you for letting us come, for letting us party, and for letting us do so many fun things.

regrets and sorrys

there were many people this year who it was wonderful to see, but from whom i got barely a hug and a short story before we were each whisked in differing directions by the rush of things happening. octal, roamer, freshman, beetle, bruce & heidi, lil_freak, headrush, noid, jackalope, cotman, jurist... all of you and so many others are the exact people who make our community outstanding. if i had the chance to sit with any of you for more than five minutes or give you more than one drink i consider myself lucky, but i don't know if that happened in most cases this year. we'll all see each other again before DC15, i'm sure... hopefully under more controlled blood alcohol levels and with more than three seconds to spare at any given moment.

p.s. - sorry to freshman for somehow failing to comprehend that i had a full cup of ice in my one hand when i embraced you on thursday. i guess i was still in "outdoor defcon venue" mode and was regretting not having sewn goon neck wraps this year. chances are you didn't need the additional cooling at that particular moment, however.

..and last but not least a BIG FUCK YOU to none other then asshole...

<hate>

You fucktard asshat pissant, my best friend now can no longer come to defcon, and you went and fucked up saturday night for everyone (including most the neg9 crew), hope your idiotic drinking was worth it. I also expect that Xodia is not stuck with any costs relating to the hotel rooms, and that your covering everything. Defcon is a social event, sure you can drink with your friends, but don't drink yourself into fucktardism. What falls faster an asshole or a can of redbull? if pushed out of a 20th story building?

</hate>

moderators feel free to remove the hate, I am still pissed about the whole thing.

See y'all at Defcon 15

Thanks to LosT for the cool box that I now put stuff in.
Thanks to the Mein Fraulein guys for the 16 hour crypto contest.
Thanks to DJ Jackalops for the tunes.
But mostly, Thanks to everyone that put up with my shit.

As a few know, I could not physically be at the venue this year, but trust me, I was there in heart, in spirit.

Though it probably doesn't really matter to many, I have a few woots to add to the list:

DT, his partner, and the folks who make it happen: you folks really have no idea how much you are appreciated by this ragtag bunch of mainstream social castoffs. You all work so hard to provide a space for us to geek out, party out and just be. For this, I personally thank you.

DT, his partner and the folks who make it happen, plus the speakers: you folks have no idea how much you are appreciated because of your efforts to give this ragtag community brain tickles, new and excellent content and a relatively safe place in which to play with our ideas.

The Goons: You'ens all rock. Goddess blessings on you all. Enuf said.

Mee: thank you for being a fine friend and for the calls to keep me in the loop.
You are one of the sweetest, smartest people I have ever met. Rock on!
Plus, You seem to have gathered quite a following with your rig for one of the Balls. :-) I WANT PHOTOS!

ASTCell: Your photo foo is excellent. Your friendship even more excellent.

ASTCell and Prez: For your commitment in the face of known danger to life and limb. I've been there and I am glad to know that such warriors still commit. I trust you have special people in your lives that understand what it's all about. Prez, come home safe and whole, you hear? Don't want to have to go ninja on you! :-)

The h'pimps: you IS my crew! Thanks for representin' again so finely this year.
I'll get out to J'ville some time soon. Especially to Marklar: thanks for the chats and hope you made it home without being too ripped.

Jackalope: LopeyLopeLopester! your music foo is incredible. My friend wants more. Give me more, girl...

The lovely crew that phoned me over the weekend: Your thoughtfulness touched me. I thank you all and cannot express how very much your kindness made me smile. You know who you are. :-)

DO and Al: thank you guys for the messages. That was very kind of you and I appreciated hearing from you. See you at ToorCon or ShmooCon! DO, bring the lockpicking stuff, I need another lesson if you would be so kind. I sadly missed the LP village this go-round

Some of the speakers: I won't shout out, but thank you for your kindness in providing me with your content. I deeply regret not being able to be there to grill you on your logic/though process/etc. Perhaps another time.

stay shiny y'all!

I started this on the plane Sunday morning...next year I'll be completing the package and getting the right hotel AND the right flights so I don't miss the last day. Here goes in somewhat alphabetical order:

Thanks:
AST: thanks for the use of the warehouse card...TXBBQ couldn't have happened without it.
Converge: a well planned BBQ, everyone got there that wanted to go and good times were had by all.
cotman: great move on getting the van. Hopefully they didn't inspect the springs when it got back to the agency. wtf was that beeping anyway?
DT: good game, as always.
god minus one: for hooking up the HP wristband...much appreciated.
hackerpimps: awesome party for so many reasons including the interesting new drinks which were created either intentionally or not.
jackalope: nice job on b&w.
kai: for the armidillo eggs and the recipe. always good to see another chiefs fan taking the grill to a gourmet level.
voltagespike: good to hang...we'll do more next year.

Now there are a number of others that deserve specific thanks, but the memory is hazy of some moments and I am terrible with names. Hell, there were some people I wanted to meet up with and may have but didn't realize it. This was my second time out, and had a blast. Hopefully by next year I'll have the facial recognition to give proper thoughts to everyone.

Die in a fire:
Asshole: Not only did you hurt Defcon's reputation, you seriously screwed over the people who were clearly nice enough to babysit your stupid ass. You ought to be paying for their trips for a while.

That d-bag that was very blatantly taking pictures of the faces in the crowd during Black Ops. Even if you didn't know it was against the rules, it was a boner move and since you were clever enough to be the first one to post DC14 pics on flickr, I hope the people in the know put together the pieces.

Just a quick thanks to everyone for making it a great weekend.

octal, claudus, the guys broadcasting the ssid above my room (4506 guys), kenfury, crash, utc, skroo, iain+lee

Cheers to everyone in the ninja party who helped me finish that absinthe and for holding my flag! The green fairy had me buzzing well throughout Sunday! :-)

A big hooray to DT and the goons for all their non stop work and for making it such a successful weekend.

FUCK YOU:

Only one. The wanker who spoiled it for everyone aka 'asshole'.

See you all at dc15 :)

Cheers,

Jackalope Thanks: (YOU!) (I would have spaced this out for readability, but it just would have been too long)

ALL the Goons: You guys/gals are truly my family as well as some of the best friends I have in my life. You are the first people I miss most when I leave con.
Noid: for having faith in my DJ skills at DC7
Evil: for getting me into the vendor area every morning and being a friend
Golgo: for the birthday present of the plane ticket to con, for being you, and helping me out with my grumpy computers and printers while I was putting together all of the cds.
Bink and Zziks: For the B/W Ball and for putting me on the line up even though you say you would be killed if you didn’t.
Kris Klink: for the Blackout party reminder. I am sorry you didn’t get to play. Awesome chatting with you.
DB Cooper: for proving it was possible to sleep in intervals of seconds at con and also for coming out to Colorado for my Pirate party in the doublewide club and braving the negative degree weather.
Q: for the invite to the Mircosoft party, you should have gone!
Tacitus/Kallahar: it wouldn’t be DC if I didn’t get to hang out with you guys. Everyone needs penguins and a blue teddy bear, even you two!
Che: “Anyone up here?” Poor security guard…
Flea/Queeq: for the wheelchair madness.
Zac: for doing all the stuff that needed to get done behind the scenes at DC14 and for having a gateraid with me every morning.
Barkode and the Ninja crew: My Saturday night was truly going south fast, and then I came out to your party and my night just got nothing but better after that. I will continue gracing your parties as long as you will have me. You have first priority as far as the renegade DC parties go.
The guy who brought the Vestex mixer to the Ninja crew party: for the mixer love and playing some of my records so I could have a break. You are a good dj. Truly awesome!
DJ Catharsis: for stepping up to bat after I was too worn out to go on at the Ninja party.
Caezar and his entourage: For once I got to actually talk to all of you. Very fun hanging out on Thursday night. All roads lead….
Roamer: you just rock socks, man.
Russ and snakebite: Denver more!
Toxic BBQ Crew: this was the first year I made it. I had a blast. Thank you for the party.
Skydog: for the invite to the Hackerpimps party.
Londo and X: Yay! Thanks for the 1200s and the mixer to decimate all on.
Skydog #1: see? I didn’t forget ya you old man.
Marshal (I know I just misspelled your name, apologizes): being one of the busy people at DC has its disadvantages. I’m working on things so I have more time next year.
Everyone who bought anything from me: you have no idea how much I appreciate it. Djing in my city is a giant thankless job. I’m glad I have fans everywhere else. I appreciate you.
The Various Artists on my cd: for the tracks.
303: Cuz this is how we roll!
ASTcell: Heck yeah, you made it.
Prez: hang in there. We’ll be waiting for you at DC15.
Valkyrie: you were missed, I’m glad Astcell made it possible to get stuff to you.
DT/Black Beetle: Thank you for making me official. And of course, if you need to me dj for you, let me know. I am a dj of all genres.
The International House of Mojo: right on!!!
Xodia/Twinvega: Hopefully this thing will all get worked out. It was good seeing you and Thursday was fun.
CK3K: roxor!
canis: you SO weren't there.
The Whole Green Sector Crew: for making the days go by smoothly, for watching the booth for me when I had stuff to take care of, for being awesome 1000% of the time, for letting me come back and share space once again.
23b: for hosting my picts and being fun to party with
The Jackalope Army. You know who you are.

ok…this is super long…I’ll add more when I think of them…I’m still in the DC haze of no memory….apologizes to anyone I left out, just whack me over the head like Converge said.

Thanks to Quiet and other people I accosted for help while I was way lost trying to find octal/typeos, and cheers for everyone that I met because they were all friendly (specially typeos' posse, the 4506 party and those who have decided I'm baking them muffins next year).

And Woot to everyone who made it there and everyone who made it all possible: it made for a pretty sweet first DefCon. (except for asshole, of course)

I can't really thank any specific people, it was my first defcon and I was just mostly lurking and taking it all in. I hope that next year, I can participate more. I'm fairly new to the security world and want to learn more as that is the career I would like to work towards.

But I guess I want to thank everyone for making it enjoyeable.

First of all, A massive thanks to the goons for understanding the whole situation Saturday night. You guys rock.

Twinvega- For the good times in the room, the good times at the parties, and the handling the bad times with asshole.

Icetre- For the totally awesome party and letting me be a part of it. I'll do a Walmart run any time compadre.

Abby- Ditto. Levitate!

Levitating Guy- You dance like someone with unspeakable grace. Congratulations.

Siviak- For not beating my drunk ass Friday night. Another year of good times.

BrokenCbl- For the rides, the brews, and countless other unasked favors. I owe you multiple brews.

Headrush et Lil_Freak- Its always great seeing you guys. PBR 4 life.

Londo. Xtasy. Spahkle and GM1- It really meant alot you guys talking to me Sunday. That showed real character. Thank you.

Hex- 3,842.04.

Static Black- Thanks for the crash space on Sunday and all the other good times.

Ck3k- I didn't see a ton of you, but it was still good times sharing a Black together.

Snow- With all the cigarettes you bummed off of me your lungs must be bleeding by now. My apologies. :) Good times, I'll bring you a carton next year.

Lope- Man did you have a rockin' outfit Saturday night. Alot of pre-con fun with you and Golgo. I shall stay your faithful Lieutenant.

Che- Always good times hanging and talking over a brew. See you at Shmoo.

Kallahar- We had a good run as facilitators.

Tacitus- You nearly scored Tuesday with those chicks by Treasure Island. heh.

Fuck you Asshole. Your not in DC859 anymore, Cinci2600 hopes you burn in hell, and nearly everyone in the Tri-state area knows more about you than your parents. Have fun.

I know I am forgetting a massive amount of people, don't get pissed if you don't see your name. Its in revision for the next few days.

First off, I want to thank everyone who attended. Baring a few things, like DC starting two hours late and the B&W ball fiasco, Defcon overall ran very smoothly. I think myself and the hotel both went into this expecting a very different outcome. I want to thank the attendees who just rolled with the punches and were very cool with my staff, the hotel, metro, etc. Shit happens. The best we can do is learn from it and try to prevent it from happening again next year. We've been doing this for 14 years, but we are still learning; each Defcon presents new successes and failures we can learn from.

DT: Thanks for comming back year after year to do this. Most people dont realize that each year your ass is in the fire when it comes to the money and liability of this event. I dont think many people would have the cajones to step up to that level of reponsibility.

The Security Goons: Ya'll rocked. New hotel, new organization, and overall we operated so well that we impressed the hell out of the hotel. In particular I want to single a few guys out. When I got the chance to speak at closing ceremonies I wasnt prepared to do so, and as a result I didnt get to thank everyone as much as I wanted.

Priest: I want to thank you for being there to help out, even though you had been off duty for hours. When things got bad on Saturday night, there was more stuff to deal with than I could take on, thanks for letting me offload things onto you

Nobody/Arclight: The way the two of you worked on the kid that slipped and hurt himself was beyond impressive. Sure, it was a fairly minor incident, but it allowed us to demonstrate to the hotel that we knowwhat we are doing and can be professionals about it. The fact that even the EMS crews seemed hesitant to get involved says it all. The two of you knew what you were doing and it was recognized.

Pappy: Thanks for being my best friend as well as my second in command. Your relaxed approach to things helps keep my bad attitude in check.

Skydog, Decode, David, Carlos: This was your first year and so far I have heard that ya'll want to come back and do it again. I take that as a compliment.

The security team leads: Justabill, Flea, Arclight, Freshman, Cyber, and Luna. Congratulations, ya'll are management now. Heh

Doug/Theresa/Don (hotel staff): Thanks for putting up with us and working with us. My team had a great time dealing with your team. There was no attitude or BS, just a bunch of professionals working together. It made less work for us, and it made less work for you. Look forward to working with you next year.

The Speaker Goons, in particular KK and the other individual that assisted in a medical situation on Sunday. My guys were scattered thin and these folks stepped right up to deal with the situation in a very professional manner.

LV Metro: Thanks for working with us, rather than against us. I know the overall outcome of things on Saturday didnt make the attendees happy, but I dont think they fully understand how much worse it could have been. Thanks for being cool.

Now on to the attendees

Londo/Con/Siv and the rest of the TBBQ staff, as well as the attendees. All of the food, drinks, and leftovers came back to my HQ. Your generous gift kept us fed and hydrated for almost the entire weekend. Thanks for so much. There really needs to be a 'Feed the Goons for just pennies a day' PSA made

The Ninjas: For the few moments I was able to sit down on Saturday night, I enjoyed the food, hookas, and hospitality you had to offer.

Ralph/Tink: It was nice meeting you two. You both were a hoot to talk to on Thursday

In my fatigued state I know i am forgetting a ton of people, so I will just edit this thread later.

Now the fuck yous:

Asshole - You done, G. Have fun reaping what you've sown. Dont think for a second that you are ever comming back to Defcon. I'm gonna have to work my ass off over the next year to try to get the poor bastards who let you hang out with them unbanned from the hotel.

The guy checking IDs at the penthouse: Dude, I dont knock the sailors dicks out of your moms mouth when shes trying to work, so why dont you just let me do my fucking job? I was attempting to let AbbyNrml's party know that LV Metro and Hotel Security were heading up again and that if they wanted to keep their party going they needed to bring it down a notch. I didnt need you getting up in my face while I'm working. You try that shit again, I'll have you 86'd so fast it will make your head spin.

Althought I was not involved in the incident, I thank you for spending your time helping others, no matter what the outcome, you deserve some beer. I hope it can get resovled, it is going to be wierd at defcon without certain people there.

Big thanks:

DT - Thanks for risking your neck so many years in a row, As regretidly (sp?) I didn't get to attend the early defcons, the latter ones have been much fun, learning, enjoyment and much else. Big thanks and apprecation. We all owe you so much for giving us a much needed place to let loose, teach, learn, network and socialize.

Converge - Too bad aCTF didn't work out this year, maybe we could've really "cleaned up" (maybe next year?)... Buffetcon didn't really work out as planned due to many loose ends to tie down and

Pipes- Thanks for coming all the way out from .nz You are a great guy and we'd all love to have you back next year. Thanks for some good converstation and beers.

LosT - Didn't get to work on the mysterybox, but the contest is badass and I hope you can expand it next year. Its true a hacker puzzle.

Deviant - I didn't get to try any raindeer, nor pick any locks this year, but your overall con attitude, general friendly/welcoming all around good guy are amazing. Thanks so much for being you, your a true hacker my friend.

Highwiz - for not coming ;-P

Neg9, craSH, Xodia, Twinvega, Emailajynx, etc .. getting me into parties/events that I would otherwise not be a part of due to lack of scene network status. Thanks for some good times guys, I'll enjoy going back next year with you... (-asshole).

ToxicBBQ - Great job guys, its a very cool con "appetizer"..
Noid and Goons - Big thanks for doing what you guys do best. Big shouts to priest for putting up with the shit so we don't have to (and can keep coming back) and for being priest.

Vendors - Might not read this but... thanks for coming back each year. Without your stuff I might not spend too much money... thanks for bringing cool shit.

(I'm sure im forgetting people)

Still REALLY blurry eyed and mush brained, so this will also be updated as things float to the surface.

First off, the Thanks:

Grey Frequency, for once again tolerating my schedual and actions at Defcon and being the best companion a guy could have

Mouse, thanks for being a friend and keeping Grey company while I was tearing around everything else

Deviant, the best friend a guy could have at con. Thanks for the BCCC, the drinks, the jokes, the locks, everything. It was nice to hang out and just chat again. And thanks for the code in the Mystery box challenge

Thanks to the RedX, fishstix and the rest of the wireless posse for being professionals and knowing how best to screw with the wireless contests and make it interesting.

Thanks to EricM/lieto for playing communications during the contests. I really am not looking forward to my phone bill though. Thanks for the conversation and everything else through the weekend

Thanks to Larry and Mother for stepping up and doing the wireless contests with me and being damn good at it.

Thanks to Thorn for running the wireless contests this year and for understanding the 'if it's not forbidden in the rules, it's allowed' rule, also for being a good friend and keeping me challenged

Thanks to team 'Nostromo Cleanup Crew' (Mfreeck, C0n, Deviant, Thorn, Grey Frequency, Joe Grand and anyone else who helped). I missed the initial start of the contest, but I was amazed by how quickly you plowed through the first 2 stages and got to the 3rd. It's nice to work with professionals. Just need to remember next time to slow down and let the rest of the team catch up.

Joe Grand, thanks for the awesome badges and for joining us at the last minute as our ringer on the team. Look forward to chatting with you in the future

L0st, thanks for an awesome contest. The thing I like most about Defcon is the opourtunity to find out exactly how much I don't know. Your contest really was a boot to the head as to the power available in building your own hardware. You'll be hearing alot from me in the near future.

Theprez98, for doing what he's doing. I think you have free drinks at con for quite a while

A super-duper huge thanks to DaKahuna for driving me half way across Vegas to get dry ice for the BCCC and for the ride to the TBBQ. Would'nt have been nearly as fun if you had'nt helped.

Calypso, for the cash and the push

Skydog and the hackerpimps, thanks for the party, was one helluva view. Particularly Skydog for his hilarious narrated instructional demonstration of how to properly tip a stripper (which is'nt easy when her legs are around your neck)

C0n and Mfreeck, for being cool as usual and for always being willing to step up and help me chea....... I mean, gain an advantage in a contest.

Team PSKL, for being good winners and not being jerks, as well as for not getting us all arrested when security freaked out at your rigs.

Siviak, Sno, Scav hunt crew. It was interesting being a scav hunt item. Thanks for the sense of humor.

The Pirate party for welcoming us so warmly, even when we were'nt invited and had no idea who's booze we were drinking.

The Pirate raiders for inviting us down to raid the Ninjas

The Kenshoto guys for letting us work at your table during the wireless contests. We could have gone closer to the target, but you were projecting boobies on the wall which helped keep the stress down, something we needed much of.

I'm sure there are more that will be added, but things are blurring together again.

Fuck you's:

Asshole - nuff said.

Thorn - We were the first ones to change the SSID!!!! When I yanked the power, the SSID reset to OpenWRT, according to the rules you stated, we should have won :) Joking aside it was fun and I would'nt change anything except the outcome.

Fire Marshal - I realize the importance of your job, but the shedual changes you forced made me need to be in 6 places at once and caused me a huge amount of stress.

Myself (RenderMan) for crashing the slides during the talk and not having a dead tree copy to follow, thus depriving everyone of a reasonable delivery of the info at the talk.

Yeah, if you recall they didn't want to let me in either, and it was my party! The penthouse had an open door policy for goons, I'm not sure why he didn't know that.

I still don't know who some of those people were, they were not part of my staff.

first, i'd like to thank all the folks who came to the ninja networks party on saturday night for being so hype and so chill at the same time, for not giving me a hard time when i asked you all to smoke on the balcony, and for not breaking my hookahs.

and a small "you suck" to the dude who knocked over the big one right after i said something to you about not yanking on the hose... we got the hookahs going at 2pm saturday afternoon and kept them going 'til 2 or 3am... i was really surprised that that was the only problem.

thanks to hacker pimps for their friday night party... it's just not defcon without strippers and/or random scene whores getting naked.

thanks to the speakers! i really enjoyed the content this year and filled in a few meaningful gaps in my knowledge base. special thanks to thenurse for the lecture on sneezing into our elbows. i hate hate hate when people don't cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough.

a big w00t for x30n, whose first defcon presentation made me proud.

most of all, much love and gratitude to the goons and staff who made this the best. defcon. ever. for me (i've been coming since 7)... you guys work your asses off and if feeding and/or watering you and maybe giving you a place to relax for a few minutes helped at all, i'm glad we could do it.

Discussion over Scenewhore/Not-a-scenewhore has been pruned and copied/relocated as needed to ensure thank-yous remain here and that discussion remains coherent. (Occasional off-topic conversations are no problem, but that topic has the signs of becoming a big discussion on its own.)

If you wish to reply to the naked women -> scenewhores or not scenewhore, you should reply in that other thread.

Thanks!

Thank you's!

Thank you all who came to the MOJO party in the Penthouse, sorry about the ID issues.

Thank you for those who tried to ensure only those over 21 got through, that kept me and Icetre from going to Jail.

Thank you Noid, you rocked. Thank you all the Goons (and unofficial Goons) who helped with the party.

Thank you Priest, althought I am not as upbeat about the security issues with the Hotel, your advice was good.

Thank you Icetre, Abby, Snow, A.Jade, Seviod, and all other mates in the Penthouse. C U next year.

Thanks:

BH organizers for bringing me, torturing me and then letting me go. com4 and cyc for keeping me sane and being good roomies. c0nverge, Travis and Montana for being very helpful. Jeffrey, Will and KS for being cool, as usual. Neil and Nikita for being themselves always. Tom for being competent and having energy even when we didn't. Dom and SO (whose name I heard once and can't remember) for being very, very good company.

DC attendees for listening to Goons when we try to comply with stupid laws. DC Goons for being so easy going. I had my doubts, but this year was easy. Teklord for being an entertaining partner in crime. Carric for being a huge, nice guy.

Scott the badge hack/synth guru and Jeff for letting me sit in and help you guys make music for over three hours at the Caesar's event. That was as much fun as I could have imagined having that night.

TW for finally giving me my badge :)

dedhed, A, veruus, tierra, v0rtex, oldskools and the rest of the DC801 guys who always represent. Grifter for getting me into this whole mess 5 years ago...

Siviak for taking the Hunt and keeping it real. Vegas 2.0 for not giving up and finally winning. UAT for the shirt. All event organizers for being there and giving people something to do between waking up and parties. Speakers and Speaker Goons for being as prompt as I've ever seen. Nico for always saying "hi" and smiling. Don the 64th floor bartender for keeping us laughing.

Not enough complaints to even mention.

Others have said thank yous so well, that some of this will be a "me too" post.

Converge - I can't thank you enough for putting up with my occasionally(++) cranky ass.

BrokenCbl - Best room share evar. Very glad I got to meet you irl finally and very appreciative of all you bring to Defcon...

Ditto. I also enjoyed our late night talks, and thanks a million for the store runs! Your effort kept me well fed throughout con.

DT and Ping - For putting up with us every year and giving so many people something to rave about every year. Your efforts make the party and have built a sub-community that extends all borders.

"Me too." I wish I'd've been able to at least say Hi, but not only can I (believe it or not) be shy, but I was too busy shepherding a lost sheep home when I bumped into you.

Bless you to all the goons. It sucks that some asshats didn't understand the ID checks. I think most folks understand you're just trying to make things smoother for the rest of us.

Mouse - it was good to meet you, I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to hang out with you more.

Deviant - We'll have to hang out much more next year.

H3adrush and Li'l Freak - It was great hanging out with you two. Thanks for taking the long trek in the sun with me for breakfast. The aprons were super-cool too!

Ellen_K (?) - the lady who made the neck-coolers for the grill masters. Also a thoughtful gift for the grill masters.

Charel - Hotel Ninjitsu at its finest.

I suspect Charel is the reason I got such amazing customer service at hotel registration when I was in the middle of trying to get my room straightened out. Charel is just one of the many heroes of Defcon.

Roamer - I never was very good at thank yous, at least in text. Usually I just hope my sincerety and enthusiasm shows through in person, because I can't really thank you enough for how good you've been to Converge and I. You rock.

Lost - I believe you will succeed at getting more HW into con and more attendees into HW (pretty bots!). Also, we still have a date for pho. :) If you ever make it up to these parts, I've got some great Thai restaurants with your name on them.

Deviant, Renderman, Joe, Grifter, Thorn et al .. we were so close, yet so far. As mentioned above, the contest was just a great time and our team was no exception.

Indeed. Thank you for letting me tag along.

Hackerpimps - Best party of the party. Good music, good people, strippers, and totally smashed until hurting .. you folks know how to throw a party.

Hackerpimps ruined me for other parties... I don't think I recovered until Sunday. :)

Vertigo(?) - I enjoyed speaking with you. I generally have a tough time sticking around at parties, due to social anxiety and noise issues. You gave me a reason to hang out and have good conversation.

Sasha - W00t! It was great to meet you, and thanks a bunch for taking the time and effort to get to the CDs to me.

Guile - Thank you for watching my stuff, and I had great conversation with you. I do hope to bump into you again sometime.

ToxicBBQ people - Everyone made it a good time and even with >200 people, there were no assholes screwing it up for others. That's an amazing ratio.

Renderman and Grey Frequency - I do wish I'd gotten to hang out with you two more, but you've got your fingers in so many awesome pies that it's great I got to hang out with you as much as I did.

GM1 - Sushicon lives. Good times were had and sentimental value only made it better. Thanks man.

Also thanks for the hardwork in making sure everything was seperate, even if the venue later developed amnesia.

Noid and Evil - You deserve a break. Thanks for making the con iron out as much as it did. Also thanks for putting up with our lateness for arrival at the buffet .. you held the hotel staff back just long enough and it was a great time.

Thanks again for all your guys' hardwork, and for choosing the very buffet I'd been aching to go to all con. Also a thousand points for waiting as long as possible for our tardy ass.

Apologies:
Chris - We really wanted to go to Japanese but the timing of it all really didn't work out as planned.

This was probably due to my miscommunication and slow moving ass. Sorry, man.

The TSA guy that had to search through my luggage on the way home. I really didn't mean to laugh the entire time you thoroughly inspected my fruit rollup... there's just something funny about dried applesauce.

I could *not* stop laughing. Explosive fruit rollups.

Wishes:
Pipes - Where were you man? Was really hoping to meet you and I know mfreeck probably feels at least twice as bummed about not catching up.

+++

Calypso(sp?) - You're pretty cool when less under the influence .. wish we had more sober time to hang out.

Ditto. Although it was fun holding you up in your chair, I hear you've got something between those two ears when it's not filled with boozahol. I'd love to see it.

Dataworm, Kai - You fit in with a bunch of folks that I caught in passing from time to time but never quite got to hang out with thoroughly. This will have to be reconcilled.

"Me too." Too bad we can't be everywhere at once.

Highwizard - I call bullshit. It sucks .. I understand. It still would have been nice to have you out there with us.

Double for me.

Thanks and apologies to anyone I may have missed. It was a great con, especially given the level of opportunities for mischief.

GM1: Thank you for not putting me on fire during the toxic bbq.
Julia CA: Thank you for having dinner with us on Saturday night.
Lost: For organizing the Mysterybox contest.
Jiji: Thank you for the logistical assistance in getting one of our friends out to Defcon. That was a wonderful thing you have done.
Dataworm: For trying to help my friend with her wifi issues
Lil_freak and H3adrush: Thank you for your logistical support and friendship. Without you two I wouldn’t been able to remove a bio hazardous situation from my room. We’ll see you in October.
Javantea: Get more rest
Pixel: Sorry about Saturday night. It would’ve been impossible to join you and your crew for dinner. It was too far to walk in heels in that temperature.
Tis: It was great talking to you on Friday night. You looked great.
CraSH: It was nice seeing you there.
DJ Jackalope: For letting me hang around you and your crew. It was a pleasurable experience. Next time lunch is on me.
Black Orchid: It was wonderful meeting you again this year, at least it didn’t take 4 days to find me this time. I hope your friend enjoyed it as well.
Serif: Thank you for the nicotine inhalation device at seatac.

For those not mentioned above: My apologies and thanks.

Finally:
My spouse “YU” It wasn’t the same without you there. I want to thank you for letting me go to Defcon XIV without you. I love you and I promise you this: If I go, you go.

Please let me state that for the record, although I am a lazy bitch, the list of thankyous from penthouse 6407 is long, and my amount of energy and capacity for rational thought is very very short. As Such.. You all know who you are... Thank you. Just to drop a few names

Amber and Dallas - If not for y'all we'd been sober standing around staring at the Benassi Pr0n video..

Abby- Just Because

Siviak - If not for late night calls to you, things would have been much harder than they were.

Sno - Um well... Kiss...

AST - Man you really touched me, words alone can not express...

CJ - you already know what you did.. Thanks for protecting my cornhole.

Everyone that worked the door - God damn, another year and no jailtime, Thank you!

Priest, Goons, and defcon illuminati - Guys, there'd been no party without you, because there'd be no conference.

Sean and Angela - Once again, you were more than a little helpful, I don't know how I could have continued if it wasn't for you, I hope you both make it back next year, maybe frank sinatra will aid us all!

Nahum and George - Please, come back next year, and participate more!

HST - We miss you, as the landscape changes, hopefully we'll continue to remember your exploits, and enjoy life with as much vigor as you did. We love you brother.

To every god damn person that crossed the threshold of Penthouse 6407 - You made the party a success, and hopefully we will be throwing down again next year. God willing it will be more awesomer than ever! ;) Thank you for coming, and drinking our booze, and being so fucking interesting. See y'all next year

Che's thank you's, fuck you's, and apologies

Holy shit.. where can I start?!? This was probably my favorite con so far. It showed me just how close of a group we can be, even when we don't know everybody. It most people went way out of their way to make sure they did not cause too much of a disruption and to not jeopardize the convention.

Since I know there is absolutely no way I can thank everyone that was kind to me, please don't be offended if I forget someone. Some of the details are hazy...

Big thanks to DT for giving us all a reason to meet up with friends so close the seem like family. This is one of the highlights of my year and more important to me than Christmas, 4th of July, and Kwanzaa all rolled into one. Thanks for Priest and Noid for making it happen, it is always an honor to Goon for you guys.

Thanks to Jim for picking me up and opening up his home for me to stay. It had been far too long, my friend. Glad you could make it to Sushicon and the BBQ.

Sushicon turned out awesome! Great work, GM1!

Big thanks to EVERYONE that was part of the Toxic BBQ in one form or another. That is by far my favorite part of the whole week... getting everyone together for food, fun, and socializing. If someone goes there and does not have a blast they are not trying. Thanks to the lady and her son that gave us a ride to and from the bbq (I feel so bad.. I can't remember your names! I did have several beers that night tho.. ) Thanks for the cold neckbands.. those were lifesavers for us on the grill! :) Thanks to all that shared their food and booze with me and the folks that enjoyed the ribs and Fosters I brought. There was TONS of leftovers which became the target of a Goon feeding frenzy!

Now.. off to the attendees of the con itself. I gotta give mad props to the folks that made it out and was mellow enough for us to impress the hell out of everyone. Sure, there were a few quirks and kinks, but it all got worked out for the most part, and what did not get worked out will likely be worked out next year. Even when we started having to check ID's and shut down the Ball folks were cool about it. Thanks a ton!

Other thanks, in no particular order:

Freshman: for being a great roommate as always and putting up with my crabbiness. You know the source, so you know how I get.. especially when sleep deprived. It had been too damn long since we have seen each other, we gotta fix that.

Cygnus: Damn bro.. far too long again. I wish we could have hung out more..

Noid: Big thanks for running a great security team, the challenge coin (thanks for letting me be a part of Defcon for the last 3 years!) and for keeping the reservation open for the goon dinner. It seemed that everything was against us making it there, and you saved the day for us.

Deviant: Thanks for the exotic food and the shotgun stock! It fits perfect.. It is always great seeing you, and I hope ya can make it up north sometime to try some homebrew off the tap. Mi casa es su casa.

Jackalope: Thanks for keeping me me out of trouble when I was drunk, spinning some kick-ass tunes, and for letting me vent. Ya are a lifesaver!

Hacker Pimps: Holy shit... one hell of a party! You guys did an amazing job! I can't thank you guys enough for the VIP pass and the hat. It was great seeing you guys again.. maybe again at PhreakNIC?

Ninjas: Great party again! Big thanks to Willx and Cstone for making sure I had a drink and access for my friends.. You guys kick ass!

All the Penthouse crew: Goddamn.. perhaps the best Defcon party I have been to?!? Every year you guys throw a fucking amazing party.

Hackajar: Thanks for the sweatshirt (and thanks for Yankee for holding on to it for me!).. it's always good seeing ya.. glad you could make it out for a beer after sushicon.

Lil' Freak: LOVE the BBQ apron! That was perfect!

Converge and Mfreek: I would have been seriously depressed if you guys could have not made it out this year. Getting to hang out made the con complete for me!

Cotman: Sorry I missed the lockpick run.. thanks for the beers at TBBQ! Also, awesome move on getting the van.. that was a lifesaver! As always, you went out of your way to help folks.

Abby: Thanks for teaching me to “program”. If only my beer got the same reaction as the program I wrote...

Icetre: Thanks for keeping the party rolling! It was great to see ya again this year... hope to see you and Abby again soon.

Siviak: It would not be a con w/o ya bro.. we gotta hang out again soon!

Sno: Thanks for the drinks.. especially the Bailys!

Meee: I have to admit, you are one of the most intriguing people I know. Glad we got to hang out.. just glad you were not treating me for a another head injury! :)

The Mighty Joe (AKA Captain Switch Hook): Dude.. between the Cohiba you gave me and the black russian that Willix mixed up my soul came back that night.. thanks a ton!

Octalpuss: It has been too damn long since I had a hug from you.. missed the fuck out of that. I expect more next time I see you.

Everyone that gave me great comments on my homebrew. Hopefully the fascist flight laws with liquids will be over before next year so I will be able to bring more beer on the flight..

Ok.. at this point I am about of gas. I figure I will go back and add more to it.. but I know I dont' have to mention all of my friends here. You all know who you are.. you are the folks I op on irc.. drunk dial every now and then, give a hug to when I see ya, and miss the hell out of when con is over. You are like family.

Now.. the quick and thankfully short fuck-you's:
(As if folks did not see this one coming): Asshole. I am not going to tell you how badly I wanted to shank you and crap in the open wound for your tardness.. I am mostly over that. I was as bad or worse than you at that age; thank god I never hurt anyone or caused too much anguish. I know you were trying to fit in but you could not hold your intoxicants. For fuck's sake man.. let this be a lesson.
AND
The mullet headed assholes from the dart convention that was trying to cause trouble. Most of your group were actually very cool folks that I enjoyed talking to..but the couple of those heckling us for being computer geeks can lick my taint. Don't be pissed at us for making more in an hour than you do in a day!

Lastly, regrets:

Freshman: Sorry I was so goddamn snappy. I did not mean to take my external frustrations out at you. You are closer to me than my own brother... I meant in to way to be a dick to you.

Everyone that wanted to try my beer that did not get a chance to.

All my friends that I did not get to spend nearly enough time with. That is always my biggest regret of Defcon... there is never enough time...

meee

Actually it was lack of sleep and mild dehydration.

I am not sure I have the ability to not only remember everyone that needs thanking nor do I believe that I could find the words to do all of you justice. But still I am gonna give it a shot;

Thanks to everyone that came to the penthouse and let me hang out with you there. I was but a cog in the wheel that made up the positive energy that allowed that party to be what it was. thanks for allowing me to help, thanks for understanding and thanks for coming to me and not making me come to you.

For those of you that know me, if I forgot you , you know that was not my intention. Thank you all for being my friends and my family.

This is not a complete list, but I have been working on it long enought to post *something*:

Thanks to you!
* DT for putting his ass on the line, in the form of resources expended to start and plan the con, legal risks, and evil paperwork that is always associated with such events. Thanks for providing the resources that we use to keep the forums running, the new hardware to replace the bad hardware, the licenses for the software we use, the SSL Cert that help improve security for user credentials, the time to keep on top of security issues, and be proactive in the application of security measures that keep the data safe. Thanks to you for another great Defcon-- This was the best Defcon I've attended (even better than Defcon V)
* The Core goons that deal with the planning and background work for each con, from the B&W Ball, to the vendor area, to the Network, to the Hotel TV, to the encoding of Video/Audio, to Speaker Selection, retention, backup speaker selection, keeping time-lines, and flowing like water when routing around schedule conflicts, Break-out-Sky-box/Room allocation, Defcon Group organization, Web page updates and design, Swag/badge sales, and of course security-- I mean "happiness patrol enforcers" for helping to prevent fun from becoming fun-time-in-the-hospital (or jail.)
* Chris sorry to single you out man, but that is the way things go. I had no idea you worked your ass off at Defcon so much. On just Thursday, when Converge and I were in the badge-space, I think I saw a red blur a few times, and asked converge about it, and he said, "Oh, that is Chris." Here, there, everywhere. Now that I have some idea what you like to drink, you are first on my beer list for next year. Thanks also for the offer of invite for the Saturday night thing, but I had to return early.
* Rental Car Agency for getting it right the first time
* The Riviera Hotel and Casino women (2) at check-in for resolving the room assignment issue, and getting us the Deluxe in the Monte Carlo that had a refrigerator.
* The Hotel Staff for not giving me a hard time when I brought a cooler of assorted drinks (for the Toxic BBQ, and later the remaining sodas back from the Toxic BBQ) up to my room
* MFreeck and Converge for their hospitality as people I can trust as future roomies at future Defcon.
* Sorry to Mfreeck for kidnapping you for 60 minutes while I picked up astcell from the airport.
* Astcell, for being patient with the delays of the pickup-- It is lame that the other people planning to get you a ride from the airport flaked, but we benefitted with your company.
* MFreeck and Converge for talking me into going to Sushicon.
* GodMinusOne for setting up Sushicon and kicking ass when they tried to wiggle out of the arrangements you made.
* Jess (and others) for explaining the suckiness of the 7-day waiting period on the forums, and encouraging an extra stage of a restricted 24-hour waiting period, which we are testing now.
* Da Kahuna, and your group, good to meet you on the ride back, sorry I did not see you much (at all?) later at con. Hope you and your first-timers had a good time.
* DT, Mfreeck, and Converge for getting me in and squared-away on the Defcon Badge thingy. That kicked ass, and was totally unexpected. :-)
* The Sushi Place (name?) for giving mfreeck, converge and I a separate check.
* Lost for bringing your van, acting as a driver, and coming along on the super-secret locksmith shop tool run.
* Meee, Lost, Nikita, converge, ck3k, and other people I forgot the names of, for coming along on the super-secret Locksmith Shop run.
* Food 4 Less for carrying Guinness in the can - Sorry I took all you had.
* Vons (? I think) for carrying Guinness in the Can - Sorry I took all you had
* Albersons: Sure, you had a cooler, but why no Guinness in a can?
* Sam's Club for allowing our group purchase.
* Astcell for donating the use of your Sam's Club card for the Pre-TBBQ Food-Run.
* Astcell, Converge, Mfreeck, and everyone else in THE GOLDEN VAN OF DOOOOOOOM (and excessive beeping) for the heavy loads of stuff we packed on your laps-- special thanks to Astcell who may have lost any chance to have kids as a result of the weight of stuff sitting in his lap
* [Syntax] For taking the time to deal with the TBBQ Tee-Shirts, get them printed and being so giving as to donate some profits to the EFF and I think, The Hacker Foundation? Good job in being on the ball, and taking over this job from High Wizard.
* Voltage Spike for being easily found when I needed to give you your reward in the form of a 4-pack beverage in a can-- You may have been able to thwart my proxy last year, but I found you -- err, you found me this year.
* Astcell thanks for the offer to perform the pre-con-recon, the beer I owed you from the previous year, and the 200% interest on both counts with your 4-pack. You rock man! It is good to know you.
* Kallahar thanks to your for being first with the pre-con recon, and getting the pictures up. The 4-pack Guinness and my thanks are my reward to you. You kick ass.
* Tacitus: you also got pre-con recon pictures posted, but you only got 2nd place, because, um, you were second to post. You still got Guinness and my thanks for the great pictures and recon.
* Converge, GodMinsuOne, L0nd0, (Was there another "Grill Master," I am missing?) for keeping the grills running. Dang. You guys worked these grill for hours at a time. By the end of the BBQ you all looked tired. When I ran into GM1 the next day, he looked like a zombie, and I found out how draining manning those grills was to the grill masters. Thank you for the hard works, and grease you had to tolerate until you could change your clothes. I heard no complaints about the grilling-- only praise. Great work
* The people in my van trips back from the ToxicBBQ: Thanks for not hurling in my rental. You all seemed far from that stage of drunkenness, but I thank you anyway.
* Kallahar: great contest this year. Nice work on the build of the target range, and good job in involving people, building excitement and generating interest with more people competing this year.
* Lost/LoST/Lostboy: Holy crap, man! You went all out this year. Thanks for the Boebot, this thing is going to be great when I start work on it next week. :-)
You invested so much of your own TIME *and* MONEY into the events you hosted at Defcon. Hundreds? Thousands of dollars in money, and countless hours to craft the riddles, build the clues, design the boxes, and buy the supplies? And then, if that was not enough, you later lead a break-out session, that only required a $5 fee that became an EFF donation, to lead over a dozen people in the building of robots? If Defcon had more people like you, world domination would take less than one year. You also give of your time in the forums, to offer to answer questions about hardware for people to build machines to enter into one of the contests. I am really hoping that this break-out session you lead will bring you more entries to any robotic contest you host next year.
It was good to meet you and your wife, and hopefully next year, I will be there the full con, and you, your wife, mfreeck, converge and I will be able to make that run for pho.
* The various Lost @ Con Mystery Box contestents, for letting me observe your work and progress. Perhaps next year, I won't be observing other teams, if I decide to play. ]:>
* TOOOL and the people running the LP Village: Rockin! What a great place. You need more space, and a dedicated room you can lock so you can leave your stuff there. The extra room for presentations, break-out sessions and whatnot could even be shared with other group sessions.
* HackerPimps for throwing a great party, and letting somenoe like me in-- what kind of standards do you have, if you let people like me in? ]:>
* Doc-LPCon: well done. I only was able to see part of the 2nd contests, but after polling some people that tried, it sounds like you had a great contest.
* DC949 for aCTF: I was not there last year, but this year I can see you spent a lot of time building this contest. Nice work with the projector, music, tables, and of course, I was very happy to see *hard wired* network cables for maximum reliability. It must have taken hours (days?) to custom crimp all of those cables to all of those tables. I am sure the players must have appreciated the work you put into this event. Congrats on a great setup.
* Deviant Ollam: you were everywhere! The Beverage cooling contest was good to see. I am sorry I missed it last year. Sorry to abandon you as time-keeper, but I had planned to watch teams work on the Mystery Box challenge. Sorry I missed renderman's entry too, but I am glad you were able to use the watch.
* "The Asian woman working the info booth" (I know your first name, but not your handle/nickname, and I don't want to use your first name on the forums if you would prefer your nickname) : Sorry about paying the EFF the $20 so the person throwing could keep throwing, but I found out Priest was not going into the Dunk Tank, and I was not going to be available to dunk the next person on my list on Saturday. I did not have time to stick around and watch how it went, but thanks for being a good sport about it, and putting yourself on the line for the EFF.
* Converge for organizing the Forum meet even though the 2 hour delay really screwed tings up. It happened at 8 and then happened again at 10pm in spite of the time delays.
* Meee for asking the delta team to stand down, and postponing my being scratched off your list until next year or some other time. I know Tacitus and I are still on your list, but I don't even remember how I got on it 0:-) -- Acually, I don't remember talking to tacitus recently, maybe he really is off your list. :-o
* Meee thanks for the invite because I was "low drama" :-) It was good to have you with us on the LP Shop run, and at the Forum meet. "Passive Aggressive" is not how I would describe you, but I think I would use, "coy," and maybe, "difficult to fathom." You do well at keeping things mysterious and unknown. It was good to meet you.
* Nick and Winn for running Hacker Jeopardy. Sorry, I was not able to see Saturday night, but Friday seemed to do well.
* Thorn: Nice to finally meet you. :-) It was great to see the Wireless Contest returning again for another year.
* SketchCow: Thanks for letting my buy the 3 DVD set. I have not had time to watch it, but I will make time. Thanks!

Sorry:
* Mfreeck and converge: the toilet. At least that didn't happen again. I guess they really did fix it like they said they did.
* The person on the LP Shop run that I offered a tubular padlock. I forgot who you were, but had it available to give to you if I found you at con. Sorry about forgetting to make arrangements. PM me if you are on the forums.
* Not sticking around the HackerPimps party. I suck. My feet were sore, and I did not know but maybe 2 people there. Sadly, I found out that an hour after I left that plenty of people I would recognize showed up and the party started rocking.
* Missing the other parties on Friday, and of course, Saturday night.
* Chris for missing the Sushi thing on Wednesday (?) Sorry- Wed-Friday is kind of a blur.

You Suck! to:
* The guy in the contest area that filmed people without permission, and continued to film after being asked to stop. You suck. I hope that you kept up this practice until you found you were prevented from doing so. May your life be as unhappy as a person whose only goal in each day is to breathe one more breath while laying in a hospital bed hoping for the pain to end. May you lose your fingers, sight, hearing and memories, in that order before being kept alive against your will.
* City of Las Vegas for having construction on so many paths to and from Sunset Park and the site of the Toxic BBQ that is took ages to drive there and back
* UNLV, and sporting events in general for letting people into and out of sporting events during the times I was going to and from the TBBQ. You should plan your events around me, dammit! (heh heh)
* My feet for being so sore from all the walking they were required to perform. Don't do this to me again next year, or else!
* Me for having to return Saturday night and miss all of the fun of the Saturday night parties, socializing, and Sunday recovery.
* The fire Marshal for the mis-information, OR the people that gave you (Fire marshal) misinformation-- whichever person or people are responsible for the mis-information. Those 2 hours really hurt this years Forum meet scheduling, and made it really tough for at least one team to compete in scheduled events.

I know I am missing Thanks, and Appologies to several people, but my memory is failing me. PM me a reminder and I'll edit/amend this post or post a new one.

Here's one:

Here's a thank you to everyone who threw a renagade party on Fri and especailly Saturday nights.

The Saturday of Defcon is my favorite day of the whole year, the one day if I didnt get it off I would lose my job for, go back into debt for, do whatever i needed to do to be there for.

I know the parties you throw are in no way cheep. I want you to know how appreciated they are.

Well here it is, my very first post after my very first def con.

I'm sure I'll forget some people, even though I don't know many of you, but here it goes...

Flea: Thank you for being my friend and getting me out of the house that fateful night and down to DD. Thank you calling me and making sure I didn't miss any of the good stuff. I love you.

Siviak: Words can not express

Eris: You're the bomb. Thank you for all the compliments and letting me borrow so much of your stuff!

Vandel: Thank you for falling on Eris and not myself when you passed out.

Warhorse: Thanks for the crash space and the rope corset.

Tacitus, Kallahar, Captian, Pescador, Arclight, Queeg, Riverside, Lei, Bartender, and everyone else that I see at DD and The Pit. Thank you for letting me be a part of your life and annoy you all so much.

In end I would like to say that I am very glad to finally put a face (and refresh faces from Layer 1) to the many names that I met over the weekend. Jefe, ASTcell, TommEE, Deviant, Jackalope, Trinity, Noid, Evil, Mee, L0nd0 and {x}-tasy, Russ, Abby_Normal, Ice-Tre, Sno, Hackajar, Priest, Uncle Ira, Lil_Freak, Tis, Mary, CJunky. I do hope to get to know you all better.

And I know you weren't there but *hugs* to Valkyrie. You touched my heart at Layer 1.

I had considered not doing one of these this year since I always forget people and feel shitty...but then I said fuck it. I'm smart, I'm pretty, and dog gone it, people like me...so if I forget you...I'll buy you a beer sometime and don't take it personally.

See....I knew I'd forget someone...so now I had to edit.

These are in no particular order:

AlxRogan, Evil, and Phork--Thanks for all of your hard work in the Vendor Area this year. Your professionalism and dedication actually allowed me to get a bit of sleep for the first time in several years.

Wad, Panadero, xaphan and tflat--Best...Job...Ever

Shadowvex/Green Sector---You guys rule as vendors and as friends. Thanks for keeping the vendor area lively.

Freaky and the IVU guys--Always a pleasure to deal with you and I am looking forward to NOT fucking you over next year. Accept my apologies again.

All of the rest of the vendors--you keep me clothed and computing 365 days at a time. If it wasn't for you guys I'd probably be naked most days, and NO ONE wants that to happen!

TW, Barkode, Nous, and the rest of the Ninjas--Thanks for a kick ass party and for taking care of my ass Saturday night.

Pyro and all of 303--Wicked party guys. Much fun.

ASTCell--Thanks a million for the pin. You keep me in cool swag every year and it is appreciated!

Ghetto Hackers--Thanks for letting me and my friends into your party year after year. You guys are great.

Hacker Pimps, Siviak, and anyone else that threw parties this year--You guys kick ass. Year after year you not only allow me into your parties but afford me the ability to get all of my friends in. It's a responsibility I don't take lightly and I thank you for trusting me....and for getting me liquored up.

Jackalope and Golgo--Thanks for everything. You guys are the best to hang out with drunk or sober and I truly value your friendship.

Converge and Mfreeck--Thanks for coming back! Don't take any more years off dammit.

CotMan--Thanks for the beers, the kind words, and taking a few minutes to just chill out and talk. It was fun, and all of it was needed and appreciated.

Hackajar-Thanks for trying man

Lost--It was great to meet you in person. I could not have been more impressed with everything you did this year. You exemplified the true spirit of DEF CON like no one I have seen in several years.

Noid, Pappy and the 'surveillance' staff--Your professionalism and dedication makes it easy
for the rest of us to enjoy ourselves.

Agent X, Proctor, and Nico--Thanks for holding back certain items for me. I usually have one quest each year and each year you guys help me fulfill it.

Major Malfunction--Jesus man. I don't even know what to say. You are the best to hang out with, you always hook a brutha up and you know when to bring a person back to the right level of giant headedness. Thanks for all your hard work.

Dead Addict--What can I say. Always fun to hang out with. I'm glad we've had the opportunity to get to know each other over the past few years.

Q--Man, you hooked me up with everything I needed all of con. It was good to hang out again this year. Thanks for everything.

Videoman, Lock, Heather, and the NOC staff--You guys rule. You got every type of drop I needed to the vendors so fast that I had one less thing to worry about. You helped make my job easier and I appreciate it. Let me know next time you are in town.

Zac, DT, Black Beetle and Charel--Thanks for not only inviting me back to your party year after year, but for trusting me to help throw a part of it.

Michelle--Best 20 bucks I ever spent. (Get your minds out of the gutter you fuckheads, it's NOT what you think).

Ed--Thanks for being there when I need you...always.

Russ--I almost feel shitty including you on a list. I could devote an entire thread to everything you have done for me over the years. You need it, you got it.

The rest of the staff--I could spend a day thanking each of you individually for your hard work. Instead, collectively I salute you. Thanks for yor hard work and dedication.

Everyone else that attended--This was the best DEF CON for me since DEF CON 10. You guys are the reason. I am always amazed at how great the folks in this community are. I have said it before and I say it again...YOU are DEF CON. If it wasn't for how great you guys are we would have stopped doing this shit years ago. Thank you and see you next year.

I don't have fuck yous. If you were being an ass I politlely told you to please go and fuck yourself in person so there is no need for redundancy.

TOXIC BBQ THREE - Thank You

In the spirit of my best attempts to thank those that make my con experience awesome, here is my best attempt at thanking those that made this year's ToxicBBQ another evening to rave about.

L0nd0 - Without you at least half of what organization that exists would fall apart. Not only are you the man on the inside, but you help herd folks when the time comes, get people straight as to where to arrive, and when we hit the park? .. you're up at the grill the entire time keeping the meat on track. Without you the BBQ would be a grill and a couple dorks hanging out.
{X}tasy - How you keep l0nd0 in line is a mystery to me, but it is a pleasure seeing you every year and your participation in the BBQ is exemplary of the awesome community that surrounds Defcon.
Che - I'm tagging the idea of the BBQ on you.. all it needed was a push; you're a good friend to see yearly and the BBQ is no exception. You are one of several that makes the food run fun, like l0nd0 you hop off and hit the grills when the party starts.
Siviak - Our former Vegas insider with enough charisma to keep the grills ignited without lighter fluid. Lucky for us, the BBQ is on Thursday while you still have a voice!
GM1 - I don't think I've seen anyone tag those grills as much as you did this year. Surely any armhair you had was singed and .. didn't you have a beard when we started??
Lil Freak - Best aprons EVER! Not only the awesome surprise, but utilities as well! Not sure what the pockets were designed for, but it held whatever caffeinated beverage I had at the time like a champ!
Headrush - I swear you're always smiling, and your laid back demeanor makes you a staple of the BBQ and its atmosphere.
Renderman - You're too hard on yourself sometimes. Resident Notorious Canadian Hacker BBQ Cheerleader .. rock on man. You're great company and make the BBQ special, sauce or no sauce.
Grey Frequency - After hearing so much about you from various folks online, it was very nice to finally meet you. Thanks for returning to the BBQ and helping make it a fun event.
Syntax - I can't fully express how cool those Tshirts came out, how nice of a suprise the banner was, or how happy I was to hear that shirts recouped your money and that you rocked out a donation to the EFF with proceeds.
Guile - You're one of the folks I never get much chance to just sit down and chat with, but cool and a valued presence at the BBQ. I know for Texans its probably hardly a BBQ, but you always humor us and our kickass little picnic in the desert.
TheCotMan - Not only did you help out immensley with getting folks organized for the food run, but your van towed the line, bottemed out, and otherwise got supplied to the site; then you made countless trips to and from the park to get folks there! You, sir, successfully spited traditional Las Vegas transportation.
Kai - You and your crew were some of the first on site with additional grilling space; by the time we arrived your grill was already hot and had me regretting the 'pickmeup' pizza that I had at the food run.. next year I'll have to snag some of those bacon-wrapped delights.
Mfreeck - I'm so glad you got to hang out with folks and not get heat stroke at this year's BBQ. You were also smart enough to have your camera handy and thus became the only one with pictures in the household, capturing both the food run and BBQ.
Elaine K - Competition for Siviak's mom! You were so kind to chat with and the neck cooling devices were lifesavers for the folks that hung out by the grills all evening. The superman cake was a nice touch too, I think the goons in comms got enjoyment out of that as well.
Meee - You bring a mature, stearn sense of fun to the group that complements some of the crazier attendees quite nicely; yet I get the feeling that your quiet observation and thought brings about more entertainment than you let on.
LosT - With so much energy, effort, and time put into making this Defcon filled with hardware, robots, and more .. it was really nice to know you at least got some chill time and hang out with us at the BBQ. You and a handful of others have helped change the ideology driving Defcon from a Party/Ponyshow to a yearly event that can be just as cool and interesting as folks want it to be through participation.
Jur1st - You were another blast to finally meet and added to the BBQ atmosphere proportionately. Food, drinks, .. not quite the party level that some of the groups put on, but you helped wind me and others up to survive those crazier events.
Deviant Ollam - You exude hacker mentality; from the impromptu sessions in lockpick village, talks, contests, or the general 'fuck you' to anyone trying to tell you otherwise.. it inspires me. it inspires many. You, amoung others, bring this vibe to the TBBQ and make it more than the typical picnic it would otherwise be.
Spahkl
