Hi there!

My ideal situation for the EEE is not to make it an official workshop, but more of a Users Group. An official DUG! (DefCon Users Group!) There's all sorts of ideas and mods we can do to these little machines, between software, operating system, and of course physical mods.

I wanted to create a situation where we could get to thinking of new things that haven't been thought of yet.

I also wanted to create a show and tell situation as well since most mods that I have come across in our community are things that their inventors feel are after thoughts, but are really good useful ideas!

The invite is for all levels, from those of you who don't even have an EEE yet, to those of you who have created extreme solar powered wardriving rigs. Bring your machines and your ideas!

Is there anything that you would like to see? Do you have an idea that is partway constructed in your head that you need help brainstorming on?

Do tell do tell!

Also,
the idea of a few standard things that you should do as soon as you get your eee came to mind, like creating USB keys to have different O/S on them like Backtrack, or Ubuntu, XP, etc on them, or a quick tutorial of how to get out of the horrible Easy Mode that reminds me too much of Vista.

What would your top 2 things be to do as soon as you got your's?

In my case it was:
1) Load Back|track 3 on an external SCHC card
2) Enable Advanced mode.

1) Get rid of the basic mode on default OS
2) Load Backtrack 2 on 4GB SD card = failed
3) Load Backtrack 3 beta on 4GB SD card - success
4) Load Backtrack 3 beta on a 8 GB SD card - success
5) Load Backtrack 3 final on 8 GB SD Card - success
6) Load EEEubuntu on 8 GB SD Card - success
7) Load EEEubuntu on internal SSDD - success

So- I didn't know if you were loading BT on all different cards, but.... have you found a good source for 8GB+ SD cards? Unless I completely failed on my search Newegg doesn't have anything bigger than 4. I ended up getting mine from a photography company.

Microcenter had them on sale for $26.99 last week so I bought two. Otherewise the others came from newegg and m33p has already posted a link.

Try Tiger Direct. Got our 8GB SDHC card in less than 5 days.

I was sooo going to do the XP and decided not to. My question is.... is anyone running OSX?

I run TinyXP with SP3 and all updates on my EEEPC. I have AsTray mod to help with resolution issues as well as eeectrl for fan control, cpu, speed and even screen brightness. My EEE is currently running at 1000x600. It's a lot easier to use. I have 2GB RAM and a 16gb SDHC that I use in windows. I run BT3 Full off a 2gb SD card that I can boot when I want to use backtrack. Nothing fancy, but they get the work done.

Kinda late on this one, forgot this section existed. I've got server 2003 installed on the ssd. It's actually a little bit more stable than windows. I modded mine to have an internal sdhc card reader, so that has BT3 installed on it. Leaves the external slot for a 2Gb data sd card.

Here's what I've been doing with mine..

1) Install Eeebuntu + configure to get everything working in Linux
2) still figuring out what to do next!

Compiz runs great btw, everythings up in flames and the desktop cube is great. Maybe get City of Heroes or NWN running will be my #2...

My S.O. has XP on his out of the box and it works fine for him - he has some 2d games he plays.
