good lord. Sure it wouldnt be cheaper to fly? I'm in seattle and we drove to Vegas last year and it was fucking miserable. I couldn't imagine adding another 1000 miles to the journey.

Shit. I live in Salt Lake City. Vegas is a six hour drive from here, and I'll be flying this year.

Crazy Alaskans, don't you realize you'd have to drive through Canada! Canada Damnit!!

There are about 630,000 people in Alaska....a lot of those people are fisher"people", I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you are lucky that you have even two, in my opinion I'd fly also.:D

Nothing wrong with driving through Canada. While all the girls in America are fat and nasty Canada is full of complete babes and it would be cheaper to drive. It would just take a long time. And anyways I only speak for me and my friends the rest of Alaska is crazy.

your going to be tired when you get to the con from that long ass drive, your not going to sleep during the con (shame on you if you do), you'll probably be hungover, and then your going to make that long ass drive back to alaska...? sounds like a safety issue to me :p

Why not just catch a flight from Vancouver or Seattle? Better than driving all that distance.

take a dogsled to the nearest airport. I am sure the drive down would be long, but possibility fun if you planned it right. Meet folks all the way in. But the drive back.. brutal.

actually, as much crap as y'all are giving them for wanting to drive down i'll kindly point to the death race for defcon eight. we had a pack of people who drove down from alaska just to join up with the bay area caravan [then being run by jonm].

i'm an absoloute bastard who loves road trips to death, i say go for it. but if you do, heed the advice of the people who have gone before you (http://defcon.acerbic.org/).

If you folks really are planning to do Alaska to Nevada, I'd like to hear how you plan to handle everything as far as Vancouver, BC. I'm in the way-early stages of planning the same trip, only in reverse, and online mapping services become useless once you start crossing the US/Canada border.

Basically I was going for the sites and to save money. Now I got a relative who is gonna pay for lots of plane tickets and hotel rooms so I dont have to worry about driving any more. And the liquor in Canada is stronger is you can just get it across the border.

It's not just about going to defcon, it's about getting to defcon

My bad. Not a real fake I.D. just one I would make so I could demonstrate to the proper authoritys and teach others how to recognize them.

Ah yes and I am sure they would be more than happy to demonstrate a few things to you as well, ... oh I don't know perhaps an arrest scenario, maybe even a trial, ... and then everyone's favorite... having their shit pushed in..

Going from Indiana or driving from there? Why don't you be a bit more precise? Especially when posting about indiana in an Alaska Thread.

Indiana is unimportant compared to Alaska. We have oil and eskimoes. Can't beat that.

yah the drive from Alaska to defcon would be harsh, if you try and drive hard all the way through you could do it in 2 days with only a short night over somewhere...

for example:

we drove from Calgary Alberta, and basically just followed I-15 the entire way down. Took a lil over 20 hours, with no more than 20 min stops for gas and bathroom breaks. It was exactly 2,000 kms from my starting point to the hotel we stayed at for that defcon.

now im sure Calgary to Alaska is either equal if not farther than 2,000 km's. So your looking at a min of 48 hours of non stop driving.

going down will be fun, but the way back is always a pain.

I'd seroiusly look into flying, because even then, it will take you 5 hours im sure.

Also if your going only with one other person, make sure you REALLY REALLY LIKIE that person, cuz stuck with someone who is annoying or bugs you, in a confined area for 40+ hours is not fun
heh

I agree.. if you get stuck with a douchbag on the trip, it will make things suck from the start. I posted some ideas for slipping the annoying travelmate a mickey see here. (http://forum.defcon.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=831&perpage=15&pagenumber=2)
