  • seeking broken/damaged/cheap airsoft piece

    Hey hey...

I know there are a number of airsoft players in the defcon community. Here's a chance perhaps for one of you to make a few bucks from a piece of hardware you may have just laying idle in a closet or basement.

I'm looking to acquire either an airsoft pistol or long gun... and functionality does not enter into the equation. This will primarily be used in demonstrations of trigger locks and how bad they are. I already have one replica firearm (which some of you have seen on stage with me at past cons) but that is an actual theater-grade, steel show piece. I don't need to make another investment of similar weight and cost.

If anyone has a broken, outdated, or totally undesired airsoft piece that they'd like to unload cheaply, maybe you opt to shoot me a PM. It's one less thing gathering dust and cobwebs in your home and it's one more purchase i don't have to make at full retail prices.

EDIT: geez... a glance at eBay reveals that market prices aren't at all what i thought they were. it's possible to pickup a functional airsoft rifle (spring power, not electric) for under $20 nowadays, and pistols are even cheaper. i guess it makes my question to the group here a bit moot.

i suppose if someone has something that's outright useless to them and they just want to get rid of it i'd still be interested and would happily cover your shipping... but i may just opt to get something that will be usable for some can-plinking fun for young folk being introduced to weapons as well as being useful during demonstrations of gun locks.

"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Is this something you plan to destroy or disassemble in your demonstration?

heh, not really. while i do on occasion use pistols to demonstrate the horrible state of gun locks, the main benefit i intend to get out of this is the ability to padlock my hard cases when i fly.

many people don't know this, but declaring a "firearm" is a valid (and, in fact recommended/required*) practice for more than just gunpowder-based weaponry and ordinance. if you travel with an airsoft piece, a flare gun, a starter pistol, or even a non-firing replica you are encouraged/required* to declare it as if it were a fully-lethal, projectile-firing weapon.

      * i've heard various airlines and various countries have differing standards... but it's virtually impossible to err too much on the side of caution. if in doubt, declare a firearm is a handy rule.

by packing airsoft pieces (and my training replica seen on stage at DC13) i will be able to check in more easily for flights, padlock the steel cases entirely shut, and not suffer the theft or damage of picks, locks, and tools that has plagued me in the past.

i found a vendor on eBay, by the way, who was selling three airsoft pieces all together for $9. they were all cheap spring guns... two 1911's and a small shotgun. so i went with that option, it works for my purposes.

i could just as easily fly with Gladys, but i would worry about leaving her unattended in a hotel room at my destination... given the poor security of many in-room safes.

For effect you want a gun that makes a person piss their pants just looking at it. If you get the Hello Kitty M-60 it may be deadly but too cute to be scared of. I recommend a MAC-10 which is gas fired, full auto, and makes a helluva racket at 1200 rounds per minute. I have a few of them, and they need tuning up every 15,000 rounds or so. I have even replaced parts due to extreme use. In fact at my next Cooncon I'd like to issue MAC-10s to everyone who brings alcohol, which is effectively everyone.

There are versions for $19 and versions for $199.
