Yes, this would be a hate crime if any other religions were affected. It's open season on Christianity, but steal a Koran and watch the FBI get involved.

Anyway here is an angle for you. A company tags all its widgets. Over time they see where the widget sells and ends up. Even if a widget goes on Ebay and is sold to another part of the country, they can follow.

Simple example. They make snowshoes and distribute to all 50 states. The ones in Hawaii end up on Ebay of in garage sales. The ones in Minnesota are replaced every two years. The ones in California end up in Japan. Now with this information they can redirect their marketing and advertising. Cancel ads, sales and shipments to Hawaii. Push Japanese traits on the ones sold in California. Move more shoes to Minnesota. And so on.

Tough examples. AMD chips. Universal remote controls. Digital cameras. And maybe incorporate a wi-fi signal too so it can find a hot-spot and upload usage information. When your batteries are low it will even order new batteries for you, for free, complete with lots of advertising.

Put them on our socks and shoes, so we can find where the world's missing left socks can be found.

If such devices became popular, I think we would see countermeasures to find where these were embedded in products, so they could be disabled, or removed. (Such things were found when those metal tape strips were added to video rentals, until thieves found they could cover these with other kinds of tape to block being scanned.)

I've thought removal of one of these GPS/lo jack systems from a "stolen car" for relocation in a large plastic bottle could be amusing. Drop it in the ocean, then ask, "Where is my car?" to hear them reply, "heading south, somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

My cats stole your socks, that's where they all end up; as cat toys. :) (especially expensive wool dress socks the day you are suppose to go interview; shakes finger and Baxter and Seth)

Actually shop lifters use shopping bags lined with metal foil.

Interesting thought astcell which brings to mind many good things GPS could be used for. What about the "other side" the "dark side" of its usage? How do we regulate or should we regulate who could use such a powerful tool to track covertly? And how soon until GPS detectors/blockers/scramblers are cheap? Oh and of course the next generation GPS that evades the current detectors/blockers/scramblers? The spy vs spy element of it all is really quite intriguing!

How about a bad guy putting a tiny magnetic GPS tracker on all the police cars he sees, then he keeps his cell phone on and monitors their locations as he makes his getaway?

They can already do this in reverse: instead of a "chase", the police fire a gps transmitter onto the car and just let them go.

They can build GPS transmitters into all firearms that transmit as soon as a shot is fired, using kinetic energy from the bullet to power the transmitter....

heh... don't say that too loudly, or else some politician somewhere will think you're serious and try to pass a law requiring all gun and ammo manufacturers to implement that exact feature.

smart triggers, micro-stamping, and on down the line... there's no shortage of ways that people who know close to nothing about firearms choose to make demands about firearms.

While I agree wholeheartedly with the second half of your statement, I find it interesting that most people that misguidedly talk about the separation of church and state attend services at their local high school gymnasium, I don't understand the first part of your statement.

Some Jews do believe in Jesus, not all, but a portion.

First I'm sorry about this, but this is way too funny and goes with this thread. I did a search on Jesus statues being stolen and there is apparently an epidemic

A story I saw on Attack of the Show:

OAKFIELD TOWNSHIP - A Kent County woman says a treasured family heirloom has been returned after it was hijacked amid allegations she doesn't clean up after her dogs.

Jean Mansel says her 80 pound cement Jesus statue was taken from a pedestal in her front yard, and a ransom note was left in her mailbox. Anonymous residents on Lindy Lane claim Jean Mansel isn't picking up after her dogs, so to entice her to do so-- they took something close to her heart.

Mansel says she cherishes her statue as a memento from late uncle. Last Thursday she found the statue missing.

"There were footprints behind it, and footprints in front of it," she says, pointing out where the statue used to be. My husband got a phone call and a real raspy voice over the phone said 'check your mailbox'."

In the mailbox was a ransom note.

"The note basically said they were holding Jesus for ransom."

The note reads: “We are holding Jesus ransom until you clean up the poopie from your wieners and trust us we see you take your wieners for long walks w/out picking up their poopie in our yards. This has upset us dearly so please clean up all the weiner poopie, if you want to see Jesus unharmed. Sincerely, Lindy Lane Residents.”

"It has to be a young person because they put these lines around Jesus, no adult is going to waste their time doing that," says Mansel. "And referring to weiner poopie…my gosh."

Jean has four wiener dogs and admits there was a complaint last year about their leavings. But she says she's cleaned up every pile since.

"I take my dogs for walks; I carry a plastic bag with me and pick up anything that they do. I thought something like that would be safe in our yard, it wasn't, it wasn't."

Sunday night, Jean told WZZM 13 News the statue had been returned, taken not by neighbors but by a family member. She declined to explain further, only that this has now become a family situation.

Jean says she is happy the statue is back, and says she doesn't intend to press charges

Absolutely terrible but a hoot nonetheless. :-) I contribute the rash of thefts to the the traveling gnome syndrome. Well it is a positive thing that many are returned, there's hope for us yet.
