  • NMap 10 Years Old

    I'm pretty shocked that this didn't get mentioned here. NMap was 10 years old on December 14, 2007. I've never met Fyodor but have used NMap since I knew about port scanners. Aside from tools like ping, whois, traceroute, ...etc it is no doubt the first security tool that I've ever used. The new Zenmap GUI looks great and I'm excited about exploring the new features of nmap 4.52. If you ever see this guy http://fpix.us/pics_me/Hope6_Fyodor_...1100x1100.html make sure you shake his hand and thank him; I know I will. I'm only sorry I didn't know about it sooner. Actually found out via http://www.wireshark.org no doubt the second security tool I've ever used.

    Thanks for the last 10+ years Fyodor, maybe one day we will meet.

    Sincerely

    xor

    Ps If this date isn't on the Defcon site calendar then it should be added.

    Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This applies to making babies, hacking, and youtube videos.

    [event=147]Event added to History Calendar[/event].

    If you have suggestions for other application birthdays, feel free to provide citations corroborating the claim, and I can add more History events.

    IIRC, I have an ical export generated every hour or so, and Nikita has a google calendar that pulls a feed from the ical export. If her gcal includes the history feed, that may take a while for Google to grab. (Thier updates are asynchronous, and unpredictable. Historically, they have not allowed users to force synchronization and update immediately, too.)

    Oh yeah. Good idea on his as a suggestion for the history calendar. :-)

      One of my fondest memories from Hope Number 6 was drinking at the Blarney rock with Dragorn and Fydor and others after con was over. I made sure to buy drinks for a the both of them. Actually I think I bought a round for everyone.

      One of those memories that helps me keep my sanity around this time of year when I get stabby because I have'nt done a con in a while.

      I really like that the hero's in this community are so accessible, it just takes a beer to make a friend.

        You need to hang around with us more at cons. ;)

        Fyodor is a quiet, reserved guy. It was kind of funny to look in some photos of L0st's first Mystery Box contest at DC14 and see him watching how Team Nostromo was cracking the hardware.
