  • 'To catch a predator'

Ok, I know this is old news, but I figured I'd post this for a laugh.

Now, I get that the age of consent is not 16 in all states, and that the parents maintain the legal right to keep their children safe, but this person above has the gaul to post that when the parents allegedly committed cybercrime.

"He's the one who wanted to come here," the housemate said, adding that Ms Broome believed the boy's parents had hacked into her email accounts to find out about her.
The irony is that this happened in Pitt County, NC. Having had to deal with the court system there, I can say from personal experience that that county in particular is backwards in the way they handle legal matters, and they hate anyone not from that area. I haven't researched the outcome of the case yet, but I bet that when I google that portion I will find the woman behind bars and the parents off with no charges.

Another post, but pretty one-sided as it does not give all the information.

The outcome is below, I am looking for more info right now to see if the hacking was addressed.

Edit= Nope, not addressed, see below.

I went to Wikipedia and looked up the AoC.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of..._North_America

    North Carolina

The age of consent in North Carolina in general is 16, though no school faculty member can have any sexual activity with any student more than 4 years their junior except when married to the person {§14‑27.7}. Any sexual intercourse with a 13-15 year old is prohibited unless the defendant is less than 6 years older than the victim except when married to the person {§14‑27.2, 14‑27.4 & 14‑27.7A}.

There is no defense against a charge of rape that the victim is the spouse of person committing the act {§14‑27.8}.

North Carolina General Statutes Chapter 14
Basically, she broke no law...was entrapped, a victim of cybercrime (her email hacked) and the parents got away with no punishment and she had to serve a month in jail then was told to return to AU with no chance of contacting the fiencee. Fun.

Yes, I am aware the parents could have accessed the guy's account and read the emails there....but quite frankly, I wish the issue was at least addressed.
