I'm assuming this person is from outside the US Thorn though I personally know little about GSM, being a CDMA man myself.

He could ask Ms Dewey she would know :-). Yeah, I know I'm terrible :-).

Man that was totally creepy, please note the above 2 post times. Don't know whether I should play the lottery or do a vulnerability scan on myself. :-) Guess the jokes on me :-)

I see. My information may be wrong, but my previous phone provider told me that GSM in the US and GSM in other places was incompatible, so getting a sim card may not work for you. However, that may be wrong or outdated. Like xor, I went to CDMA several years back.

Another option for you would be to buy a disposable phone in Vegas.

If you play the lottery, do we get a cut for helping you hone your skills? ;)

TheCotMan is around. He has been doing a lot behind the scenes on things like working with DT to get the mail service working on the forums again.

Hmm, I was getting worried thought I was going to have to post something morally bankrupt, blasphemous, blatantly illegal, and politically incorrect to get his attention. :-)

Glad to hear he is doing well.

Many soldiers in Iraq who had GSM phones from the US (i.e., T-Mobile) were able to use them there with locally bought SIM cards.

Actually I use to get out quite a bit. Flying here & there from my base in SF to see DJ's play in raves & clubs around the country. I use to be quite the club kid, only not so much a kid. Trust me the world is a safer place today without me getting out much :-).

Re: How to get vegas SIM cards

Oh thank god, a familiar topic. lol. The fact is I have yet to find a place to get local SIM cards in any state so I am not sure if they are around Las Vegas would be the most likely place if anyone would sell them, but if you can get your hands on one, any quad band GSM phone is compatible with any country. Tri-band is questionable. But the phone has to be unlocked from its carrier if the carrier in fact locks their phones. (most do)

You will likely need to buy a throw away phone but here is a place you can get SIM cards for each country I just found....

there may be more places like this just keep looking.

Yep. Busy at work; changes create more work. Also, now that I am spending less time answering forum mail for password reset/account enabling, I'm spending time on a back-log of projects.

Don't wait for responses from me. :-)

On the plus side, Grifter and some other experienced members are spending more time here, bringing more useful/interesting content for discussion, as are a few of the other seasoned members. Check out these discussion(s) they have started, and discussions like this one. (If I had more time, I'd be there too.) Sorry, I don't have time to list them all.

I just find that amazing, 2 people separated by a great distance thinking the same thing within a minute of each other.

How many password reset requests do you get? Hackers not being able to remember their defcon passwords. There's just something wrong with that. :-) Unless I'm missing the point.

A while ago regular POTS phone calling calls use to work on certain cellular networks if they had an 877 number to call in on. I guess that there was a mistake made when they added the new toll free prefixes. In other words if you had a disconnected phone and one of these calling calls that required you to call in on 877 prefixed number, you could still use it OTA.

e.g Cellular One, TDMA Network in SF.
