Re: What's your favorite hacker movie?

I hate to be the one guy who lists this, but Hackers is up there with me.
simply because in the face of all the "movie hacking" the one thing that was pegged right on was the hacker mentality.
    Just my 2 cents.

A strange thread. The only winning move is not to post.
How about a game of 'Favorite IP Addresses'?
I like 127.0.0.1. No place like localhost

Yep. I spent a little time trying to track down some of the other threads on this, but only managed to find a thread on the worst hacker movies.

So, your vote is for War Games?

How about a game of 'Favorite IP Addresses'?
256.256.256.256 because it is like broadcast, but louder.

Why not just make 255.255.255.255 louder?
            perl -e 'print pack(c5, (41*2), sqrt(7056), (unpack(c,H)-2), oct(115), 10)'

              I'm torn between 131.84.1.168 and 202.22.99.88, myself.

I've always been fond of this one: 23.75.345.200
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

Wow, this thread got derailed quickly.

My vote is for "WarGames". Most true to the hacker mentality in my opinion.

I also like "Real Genius", "Pump Up the Volume", "Sneakers", and yes *gasp* I like "Hackers" as well. I like watching it the same way anyone who knows anything about fighter jets likes watching "Iron Eagle". A movie doesn't always have to be accurate to be entertaining.

Pump Up the Volume has always been one of my favorites. A half naked Samantha Mathis and a sudden appearance of a 10ft penis, how could it not be a great movie.

                      Ghost in the Shell.

The TV series (Stand Alone Complex) centering around The Laughing Man is pretty great also.

I like the IP address 10.0.0.100... nice and straightforward, none of that 192.168.1.1 junk for me.

Haha, good call drifter, Ghost in the Shell is amazing. I love that show... great hacker show considering everyone in it has cyber brains. I need to watch the whole SAC series though, I've only seen part of it.

No one mentioned the short lived series from the 80's, Max Headroom?

Loved the movie! Just when I think I've seen every computer hacker/security movie I discover one I missed, or remember one I forgot that I loved.
