Anyone had to use USPS insurance?

    Hi there,
I won't be able to make it to the USPS until Thursday this week to file and insurance claim for my record case. Somehow the USPS managed to completely wreck my flight case which....takes some doing!

So question: it was insured. Do you need the original slip from the person who sent it or can i walk in with the box with the insured sticker on it and use that number as a claim?

just thought I would ask since there really isn't a ton of info on the USPS site.

Did they drop it out of their plane and go fetch it? That damage is excessive, I can't imagine how they did that.

Wow, that's incredible. However they managed to do that, it's pretty impressive... I'd just say to gather all the info you had on it to take with you. It can't hurt right? Just get everything together and bring it to the PO and see what all they do need and what they don't. Hopefully should be a breeze. Though with USPS, things never seem to go smoothly...

        Cute puddy tats.

Damm girl, they messed that up hope the contents were ok. At least they didn't mess up DT's picture :-). Did the severed foot come back with it :-) http://23b.org/gallery/v/23b_members...0995.JPG.html?

I think it will help if you have all the paperwork so try and find it. I would call them up and they mite send someone out to your house at least that's way UPS & Fed-Ex do it.

I will see what goes down. The sender is (awesome) and sending me the original paper work today. But yeah, I have stood on that case and nothing has dented it, they had to have slammed it into a door or something at full force. It's a flight case, designed for misuse. I admit, I'm kind of impressed, cuz that took some effort.

Forklifts traveling at 15mph will tend to do that to most packages.

              Maybe he expected resistance.

The USPS sucks, they broke a DVD player that I had modded for all regions and they wanted the original receipt from when I bought it 2 years ago and the mod receipt (I paid cash). They ended up denying the entire claim.

UPS for me from now on!

i am actually more of a FedEx fan, given what UPS did to a machine i shipped to DefCon 9. (It's hard to see... but there's more than just that little dent on the edge... the whole back side and corner were all fucked up. Panels popped off the back plate, the mobo was all fubar, etc.) It was packed in the original case box and then that box was inserted into a larger box with more padding. Somehow they still did all that damage. Beats me how.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

American Tourister's Gorilla Baggage Handlers now apparently work at USPS and UPS.

Re: Anyone had to use USPS insurance?

                    Here's the current skinny:

First off. You have to wait 21 days until you even get to even go talk to a post office person about a claim.

Secondly. Apparently the person who sent the item has to fill out the postal form. The guy I talked to was completely up my ass about who filled the claim form out. (Of course I lied about that, the person who filled the form out was the girl who was completely pissed off that her gear got smashed, not the person who sent the gear.)

Thirdly. They KEEP the item that you are filing the claim on until they get paperwork back from their people and then at that point they just throw it away. I went to another post office for another opinion on this, they said that that it true. I went as far as asking if the item was a dead elephant if they would keep it and the person said yes.

So right now i'm content keeping my box. %#)$@$@)Q!%#(%)#$^(

Time to look at either pelican or otterbox. Sucks about the whole deal though.

FedEx does the same thing, they were nice enough to crack my dashboard I ordered for one of my cars. Thanks, but I'll keep my dash as they are hard to find as it is and I'd rather not shell out even more money to get a second one.

Now I'm not certain on this but you could always check out a drmo auction from government surplus for some good pelican type cases (well tested ones at least). Not sure where they do them in your area though.

Just curious, but was any of the actual contents of the box damaged? From the pics, I'd venture a yes.

Actually, the box did its job and protected the actual records. The sleeves were damaged. I'm just mad about my box cuz i love that thing. that's why i wont give it up.
