Newbie has Q? What is the cost of Defcon Tix?

I am planning on going to Defcon with my girlfriend. Since this is
our first time, we would like to know what the costs are going to be. Do we have to buy tickets to Defcon? If so can someone tell us the cost. Also where would be a good place to stay while in Las Vegas, in case we cant get a room at the convention area hotel?
