    Need suggestions

    So the owner of the house next door (who's daughter had been living there) came by and sheepishly asked me to take down the Jolly Roger that's flying over my garage while they sell their house.

    EDIT: The daughter had a nasty habit of having very loud parties on alternate weekends. Their patio door faces my bedroom window and they would stand out there and smoke with the door open and music blaring at all hours.

    I'm not a complete bastard so I said I'd take it down when they listed the house. I never said I wouldn't replace it with something else :)

    Suggestions? I know you have them...

          If she's such a nuisance then take it down and be friendly, the faster she sells the house the faster you're rid of her, and then you better hope you don't get someone worse than her moving in.

          We got rid of one nuisance neighbor just to have someone much worse take their place.
          A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

              I have to agree with streaker.

              What was their reasoning for taking the pirate flag down? A pirate flag is hardly the most offensive thing I've ever seen on a house.

                  They were afraid of scaring off potential purchasers. I'd think that it would make more sense to keep it up and let the prospective buyers know what they are getting into!

                      Just tell her, to tell prospective buyers that you are really big fans of Pirates of the Caribbean. Wait, that's really scary. :-)

                      Of course she could always turn this into a positive. Market it to IT professionals. Yes, you too could live next door to the Notorious Canadian Hacker. How much is she asking for it? :-)

                          My parents would put our two Dobermans out into the yard when people came by to look at the neighbor's house when it was for sale. Not to scare them away, but to make them realize what they were getting into. Fortunately, the neighbor that moved in turned out to be pet-friendly.

                              I'm not wanting to screw up their deal, just make the point that there's worse I could do.

                              I was thinking of getting a big gay pride flag (decidedly redneck province) or something similar just to bring some color into the neighborhood :)

                              Wait till the new owners see it when I get a cannon!

                                                  I would leave it up. Inform the next door lady/girl that you feel you could take the flag down, however once the house sells it's going right back up so you feel that the new buyers should have full knowledge of who they are moving in next to.

                                                  Otherwise you could have a custom flag made, maybe a "Have you seen...." flag.
