  • Who is in the Phili area?

    That's all it is....
who is in/near/etc the Philidelphia area?
I'm pondering moving that way, but don't... I don't know, know a ton about it, and was also just generically curious who is that direction as well!

I'm about an hour to the west of Philly, deep in da hearta Amish country.
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

Baxter, Seth(see sig) &I live in Philly(land of cheese steaks) proper. Our city would only be graced by your presence :-). Many more folks live in the Baltimore area.

Honestly go West, as people use to say in Cali when I lived there; "There is no life East of the Rocky Mountains".

It has to be for love or money if you are moving east. :-) Congrats either way.

Re: Who is in the Phili area?

I live in the heart of downtown Philly (Center City), about 5 blocks east of City Hall. I wasn't crazy about Philly when I first moved out here 8 years ago (and lived 2 miles from downtown), but now I love it. Where we live now, we can walk or take public transit just about anywhere we want to go. We don't have to own a car, but on the occasions when we do need a car for hauling stuff or going to the burbs, we just rent one from Philly Car Share. I could write pages and pages about the reasons why I love living here, but this probably isn't the forum for it...

Oddly enough, we're thinking of moving to Denver. Am I correct in remembering that that's where you're from? It will be painful to leave here if we do. If you do decide to move to Philly proper (as opposed to one of the surrounding cities/suburbs), I'll be happy to give you guidance when you're learning about the various neighborhoods. If you opt for the burbs though, I won't be much help.

My husband knows more about the local hacker community than I do. PM me if you'd like me to put you in touch with him. I don't know anything about the local DJ community, though.

Philly is more of a punk rock town than anything musically speaking. It's a very blue collar(nothing wrong with that) sports crazzzzzzy town. Huge student community, especially the arts. I couldn't even begin to count all the universities and colleges inside the city limits not to mention just outside. It's an old city as far as the states goes, but not when compared with the rest of the world.

You could always move to Denver, PA instead of Denver, CO.

As for learning a neighborhood, we've always joked about Lancaster City being full of one way streets all going the wrong way.

Oh almost forgot, what makes Philly really unique............Mummers. "Oh those golden slippers......"

Mummers, I know it's hard to get your mind around. Imagine gay pride with straight guys and banjo's :-) Huge G&L community, in fact it's one of the cleanest and nicest parts of the city.

Philly is a totally democratic town politically. I don't think a republican has taken the mayors seat in my entire lifetime.

the gayborhood fucking rules. i've often considered trying to find something around 9th and Pine many times, but could never even begin to dream of affording it.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

I really enjoy Philly...the neighborhood near the Italian market is really cool. Can't wait to be there in a few weeks.

GM1 told me there was a thread like this, since I don't check the forums.

                      So yea, I'm in Philly.

Hit me up on IRC if you want any of the low down.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him.
