    Sadly no.

    I did notice that it appears that they did not alter the actual passport, but rather introduced a smartcard between the reader and the passport. Presumably the card carries the Elvis Presley information, as well as any checksums, etc.

    The bureaucrats will insist that this shows that the passport itself is safe, as one of their criteria is that the physical package has not been altered, duplicated, or counterfeited. When Major Malfunction did his talk two years ago at shmoocon, that was one of the reasons they said he had not truly cloned a passport. That of course ignores the fact that the information is the important thing, and the.org did show a means to bypass the read of a real passport.
