My first thought? If I wished to create something silly in the real world for the Internet and then track its progress, I'd include a cryptic number that is actually a unique identifier I could search for. -

This type of communication should be referred to as the Looney Tunes method. Made famous in so many cartoons with signs that state "don't look up". If Unicode, it's basically senseless - some of the characters are not 'valid', (see http://www.fileformat.info/info/unic...986f/index.htm), and they're not all from the same set. There's Chinese characters, Arabic characters, and Korean characters.
edit:
actually, the first 4 are Chinese characters, (although, not speaking chinese, I'm not sure whether the third one is true kanji, or if it's a Japanese language only symbol),
the fifth is Arabic,
the sixth is Yi,
and the last two are Korean.
so, I'm pretty sure it's not unicode
