I tried the internet, using the defcon event info so I could get the "defcon rate"..however it said all those blocks were already used up. So I looked at regular rate and it was like 139.00 per night (uuggg). So I called the reservations number for the Riviera and was able to get a $99.00 per night rate. Just thought I would share the info.

That is quite odd. I just made my reservations via the link on the www.defcon.org page and mine went straight through to confirmation @ 89.00 per night.

Then you got lucky. I've always had to call. They've confirmed, when I called, that the online booking doesn't usually recognize the conference rates, and that you need to call to book them. It's just as easy to call, and then they don't have your email address to send spam to.

Don't get me wrong; the conference rates are visible, it just hands back the message about the block being full, and suggesting that you call.

No doubt I did get lucky. I may have slipped between some weird internet continuum. I know last year attempting to book on line was an exercise in major frustration. And I always use throw away email addresses for these types of transactions until I get a confirmation. :-) I will follow up with them with my confirmation number. Thank you Shrdlu.

I was able to register via the web with the $89 rate. It had not worked previously a couple of times, but it did work just now.

Durr what? Apparently you've never wandered around the Circus Circus RV park completely wasted only to have a gracious security guard scoop you up and provide you proper guidance to your destination room.

That seriously sucked balls. I don't think I'd ever stay in a room that wasn't at the same venue as the con again.
