Re: Stay away from the Netherlands

I did not notice devices like this anywhere in Schiphol airport when i've been through there. Heh, and besides... if it's that big of an issue for ya' just travel to Holland via train from an adjacent nation. Come on... saying that you'll never return to the Netherlands again is like saying you refuse to go to vegas. It's one of the few places left in the world where they don't get in your face if your personal fun-o-meter red lines.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

      Deviant,

You are a very naughty person. You are the reason that places like Amsterdam exist. ;)

SD, I'm guessing you won't fly to Orlando Florida either as the Rapiscan Secure 1000 are voluntarily being tested and used there, (That is a little creepy when you really think about it!) and you'd have to be one sick puppy to get your freak on with pictures like this,
Nonnumquam cupido magnas partes Interretis vincendi me corripit

Have you been to an airport recently and see those that work at the scanners? I think 'sick puppy' is a hiring requirement.
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

That is the end result of having government create an emergency program as quickly as possible to appease the masses with good feelings of security. Some would argue that's a good thing if your grabbing people off the streets decreases unemployment. I can't believe I just said that. I think we're doomed.

Grabbing people off the streets and putting them to work is a good thing, if you have them digging ditches or picking up litter.

Putting them in charge of keeping us safe is a porcupine of a different color.

*sigh* SD, this has been in the works for over a year. Google "Homeland security" "airport scan devices" and oh, my favorite is the new device in development, that will supposedly read your mind. (check out slashdot.org) Actually, it reads certain body reactions, which I think in the long run will tank the stupid device due to people having medical conditions that replicate the "terrorist profile."

This is security theater. It will neither make travelers more safe, nor will it save time or money. It is a device to merely intimidate, ala the dreaded polygraph test. Having said that, I really don't want my naughty bits viewed by anyone who I don't favor: subsequently, one can opt for the equally invasive pat down.

And if traveling internationally, at least for now? I agree with DO's travel by train suggestion.

Don't let us get our knickers in a twist when thinking about it will prevent that.

                        Regards,
