Other than Heckenkamp being an asshole and an idiot, I do wonder if the "I didn't secure the machine so I'm not responsible for the contents" line will work. This was brought up recently in the case of the little girl who was kidnapped and killed in SD county. They found piles of kiddie porn on the alleged attacker's computer, but are wary of using any of it as evidence as he had a dsl line with no security, and the defense may take the tact that anyone could have hacked his machine and used it as a storage location.

So....... if you have no security and anyone can access your computer can they use what is found on it as evidence? OTOH if you secure your computer they can and will use the evidence against you as it is highly unlikely that others placed the data.

Actually the arguement...

would go something like this in court:

Prosecution: "The defendant had skat kiddie pr0n on his disk, he was in posession blarg"

Defendant: "My boxen were not securied at all. Anyone one of the evil doing terrorists could have put it on my boxen. I am not responsible."

Prosecution: "I call the witness Dr. P. Body from Butt Computer For-en-six firm... Dr, you are an expert, have examined the evidence and have concluded what?"

Dr. P. Body: "This computer was not 0wn3d."

Thats pretty much how it will go. Seriously. So if you put the sheite on your box, becareful. AND WRITE ZERO'S TO YOUR DRIVE ATLEAST 3 TIMES WHEN DONE!@#

What I would suspect is even more secure (which is why I'm suprised it's not used more) is put in a CF disk. One shot with an overwite of zeros and it's all gone.
