  • What did you miss at your last Defcon that you plan to see this year?

Defcon has so many things available, that there is a good chance that two things you enjoy will end up happening at the same time, and force you to decide.

What offerings caused you to have to make a choice, and which were they?

Did you decide to change your mind and this year follow a new path, or stick with what worked?

    Here is a start:
I spent too much time playing with puzzles at my last Defcon (15) and I've decided I should be better prepared to solve puzzles faster so I can spend more time socializing.

How about you? Anything you would do differently, and why?

I missed the forum meet and feel like a schmuck about it. Going to make sure I make it this year.

Yeah, and since the Splash Bar is no more - you shouldn't have any reason not to make it.
You're either on my side or else you're in the way.

Excellent point. A real bummer that the only bar in Vegas has now closed.

It's okay Chris, we forgive you this time

I plan to not miss if they move the location of the room for the Forums Meet, so I can post signs about the move before everything goes haywire and I get blamed for people not being able to find it.

Don't feel bad, I missed the forum meet last year too...

I am intent on doing more socializing this year. I made it to a ton of talks but want to get to meet more folks. HHV was too busy for me to get in, but I plan on trying again. I also need to get to oCTF earlier this year.
              Decisions that gave me agita:
Playing with Web apps f/w's vs. Vlans Layer 2 Attacks
Developments in Cisco IOS Forensics vs. Jay Beale/Owning the users with Agent in the Middle
Anatomy of a Subway Hack vs. Toasterkit

I want to make the forum meets too, it seems I always hear about the location when the last few people are trickling out.

I'd like to make it to PoolCon this year, probably won't hurt to find someone from the Las Vegas Board of Health in attendance off-duty in case the lifeguard feels like pulling rank again.

Lastly, The Defcon Shoot, only if it was held on the traditional Saturday morning over Thursday, when I should be learning something new and interesting at Blackhat.

Wait - the Shadow bar is still open. That should count for something.

Unfortunately last year it counted for some VERY expensive drinks.. and that was for nothing spectacular (and shitty service, badly made drinks, etc). I hate to say it.. but my impression of the place was "Total Ripoff"

I don't get people's fascination with the Shadow bar, never have. If I want to look at boobs I'll go to a nudie. I far prefer that to shadow puppet boobs. The Shadow bar just seems like an expensive way to sucker people into thinking they are seeing something they aren't.

                        Socializing wise:
I missed the DefCon Shoot and I've regretted it all year.... also the Forums meet-up.

                        Stuff-wise:
Managing the hallways (and the stench **serious ppl... consider a shower at least once during the con**) early enough to get to the good talks was troublesome.... better time management next year.... plus the Q&A sessions in the separate rooms were good, but overlapped other good talks...

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This applies to making babies, hacking, and youtube videos.

Re: What did you miss at your last Defcon that you plan to see this year?

Last year was my first Defcon, i've wanted to attend one for a long time now, it was a dream come true.

Being my first I think I was just trying to get my head around it all, I think it also was a bit of shyness on my part that perhaps prevented me from getting involved as much as I should of.(ok a big part)

So what I plan on doing this year,

get more involved and try to socialise a bit more and get over my shyness.

attend more talks, meet more people and learn more(HHV, LockpickVillage etc).

and of course lots more beer, buffets and parties.
joining this forum instead of lurking is a step in the right direction I beleive.
so Hi all, I hope to see you all at defcon 17!

                              :)
