Re: Favorite netbook?
I have an EeePC 1000H running Ubuntu and my boyfriend's runs Windows XP. He is able to play City of Heroes and a few other low-resource computer games. I wasn't able to get City of Heroes to fully load in Cedega on my EeePC, but haven't troubleshooted since upgrading to Jaunty. One thing to note, Compiz desktop effects work with the on-board Intel integrated GPU but the last release of Ubuntu included a version of Xorg that was incompatible with the Intel drivers. So no cool flaming windows or desktop cube for me until the driver compatibility issue is fixed. Also in Linux I'm getting less battery life than my boyfriend's Windows EeePC, and am still experimenting with different ways to extend it. I get about 3 hours right now and the Intel driver bug makes it impossible for me to resume from Hibernate (Suspend works ok). The EeePC Ubuntu community is great, if you're looking to run Ubuntu on it. They provide a custom build. There is also the Ubuntu Netbook remix, that I have not tried yet, which might address some of the issues I'm whining about.

Re: Favorite netbook?
The Toshiba NB205 just got a stellar review from Laptop (http://www.laptopmag.com/review/lapt...ni-nb-205.aspx). Phenomenal battery life and a full sized, very nice keyboard and touch pad.

Re: Favorite netbook?
Well, I've got an EEE 701 4g, but I find I hardly use it. It's nice and small, but it just doesn't do everything I need. I travel a lot for work, and since I do computer support, I need a lot of storage. I've got my 320gb drive filled up with application installs, deployment images, and tools. Luckily, I tricked my company into giving me a Lenovo X200 Tablet. It's pretty damn light (3.5-4lbs) and much smaller than a normal laptop. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with an optical drive without using the docking station (which while semi-portable, would totally negate the size benefits of the tablet). I normally just make do with sharing up a CD drive on the network of the places I go, or I have a USB drive that I'll take if I feel I'll need it (i.e. defcon). It has the exact same size keyboard as T series Lenovo laptop. I've gotten 8 hours out of my extended battery. Mine doesn't have the touch screen, but it is an option. I guess the major downside is that it isn't really cheap, but it does give me a full powered laptop that is pretty compact.
Want to sell EEE 701 4g! Like new!

Re: Favorite netbook?
I took the plunge when I found a decent deal on an Eee 900. The 8g ssd leaves something to be desired, the small keyboard does take some getting used to, and makes it difficult to type accurately with any speed.
Now the nice thing about it is the large modding community. Its already got more storage space, and a few things that it was lacking. The biggest asset mine has though is the touchscreen mod. Combine the touchscreen with usb gps and an extermal hdd, it now acts as my, easily removable, carputer.
While not as nice as having a full built-in setup, I can use my netbook for working wherever I happen to be, mount it in the car for gps and music control while traveling, and take it out when I hit my destination. Perhaps not the best carputer setup, but having a single and removable device makes backups and updating easy.

Nice nick Daft...
Russ loves his Dell mini as well-
I've been happy with the slightly bigger Atom based E^3 .

It runs OS X and various Linux distros well enough.

Re: Favorite netbook?
Unfortunately the only ones I've found to play with have been a 9 inch EEE, which was too small, and the 10 inch HP mini's, which led to a few typing errors when I played with it. This is one of the reasons I'm seriously looking at the NB205, the keyboard is full sized and supposed to be phenomenal. The mouse pad is large as well, and doesn't have those ridiculous side buttons. I'm surprised that none of them use the clit mouse. I rather liked those.
The desire for a 9 inch is more about not spending $400.00, but my concerns for keyboard size override them unless I can find some more examples to try typing on. I live near NOVA, so I suppose I need to find a weekend day and start shuffling around electronics stores.

Re: Favorite netbook?
I've been looking at the new 13" Macbook *****Pro****; drool; 8GB max(if you can afford 4gb ddr3 sodimms); drool some more. If it had an express card slot, a built in WWAN adapter, and a removal battery(cries WHY WHY) it would be so very very irresistible. I think the folks at Apple are becoming BORG like.
Resistance is Futile

[QUOTE=Melesse;105532
I have been considering the smaller 9 inch ones, simply b/c of cheapness. I just am not sure my fat fingers will work real well on typing on them. That and my absolute lust for a tablet and touch screen.

I just recently got an Acer Aspire One 8.9" 120gb, and to tell you the truth I notice no difference in size than the 10" dell. The keyboard and Track pad is WAY Better. Since my desktop blew I've been doing all my work on the acer and that speaks volumes. For the price it was a damn good deal. Anyways, above all of everyone's opinions and what you think you will like. TRY IT IN PERSON First. I know exactly what you mean about space, and the mini's/netbooks are great but you need to test them IRL first. Go to fry's play around, buy retail and return it within the window if you don't like it. Or take at look at what people are using at Defcon, respectfully of course.

Re: Favorite netbook?
Actually bought it in Korea, while presenting at CodeGate...
It had Korean XP on it when I got it, I've since put Winbloze %111 on it.
