Re: Riv on verge of bankrupcy?

Could be a blessing in disguise; if they go Chapter 11 all contracts are null and void. This would allow DT to move the con to another hotel more expeditiously.

              xor

Combine Defcon and Burning Man if the hotel goes under. It would be a definite challenge getting good connectivity out in the desert.

I wonder if this means we are going back to the tents. Too bad, I liked the air conditioning.

I think bankruptcy is likely to happen sometime this week (which isn't completely a bad thing), while casinos and gaming isn't the one market I really follow on Wall Street, there is plenty of quality information to be gleaned from their most recent 10-K filing (as of 3/31/2009) with the SEC.

One of these tidbits is in regards to the food court...

Riviera Las Vegas operates three snack bars and has a 200 seat fast-food “food court” which had several
fast food locations operating during 2008. The food court operation was managed by and leased to a third
party until November 2008. We commenced leasing out the food court locations to independent fast food
operators in December 2008. As of February 20, 2009, we had leased two locations to separate tenants
and intend to lease the remaining locations by December 31, 2009. Riviera Las Vegas also leases space
to the operator of The Banana Leaf Restaurant which is a full service restaurant serving Asian cuisine.
The Banana Leaf Restaurant, which is located adjacent to the casino floor, opened in the first quarter of
                  2007.

I did try landing some quotes for options on Riviera Holdings Corp. AMEX:RIV (Sorry I'm very bearish on this sector) but there are none to be had, so either there is a deal in the works to buy the Riviera on the cheap, or they are in the process of filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, as also mentioned their 10-K filing.

Mind you this is all speculative, and only based on what I've read and glanced at online without much sleep or caffeine, if you're thinking from what you've read this post is a "good deal" carefully consider all the risks, charges and expenses before investing, your mileage may vary and objects in the mirror are closer than they appear.
