I would wager that the attitude of the parents at this conference would share your beliefs, as do I. People drawn to DefCon don't fall into mainstream patterns regarding social behavior, which leads me to believe we won't see the type of confrontational attitude you describe.

Now that that is settled, any other ideas on what the kid might enjoy?

Since it was at the top of the escalators, we saw it before she did. My wife has quick hands, and had the daughter in a headlock with eyes covered quicker than I could blink. Any time we went by the ... art?... she was appropriately blinded and headlocked again. A mother's reflexes are a thing to behold. >;-)

On a side note, it was an interesting display - pretty clever.

Actually it didn't vibrate. I was disappointed when I put a quarter in the coin slot expecting some dance of the wild dildo disney-esque show and all I got was a little kaleidoscope thing on the coin box. Fortunately I had my picks with me and exacted a refund :)

With Kids at con I think it all boils down to: Hope you know what your getting them into. I can't imagine trying to explain the 'dong-pocalypse' (Dragorn coined that one) to a 9yr old, but if your up to the challenge, go for it.

What?!? It didn't vibrate? Ok, I take back my opinion... it's not as clever as I thought.

Plus you never know where those dildos have been. Were they donated, were they new, who buys so many dildos? Can you imagine the look on the person who received that order..... priceless.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This applies to making babies, hacking, and youtube videos.

To answer your question, the artist actually got sponsorship from sex toy companies who provided the bulk of the dildo's. There was a whole panel about the outsider art at HOPE where that was discussed.

The one issue I had was the constant smell of melting plastic that came from that thing. It was nauseating.

And this sort of thing is what makes HOPE unique...

**makes a mental note for defcon 18**

And I'd, in theory, have to agree with the fact that kids would get a kick out of defcon. I know when I was younger and first heard about defcon I wanted in immediately.

Although, I must also agree that after talking to the 206 guys, mainly all goons, about what goes on, it would truly be about how mature your children are.

If I had kids i wouldn't take them to Defcon.

                    Just thinking out loud...

I mean, to what end? What's the purpose? Education? Desensitization? Fun? If you are straining to find things for the kid to do, that might be a sign....

                    But that's just my opinion...

Because I like to do things with my family, and she's shown interest in some of the activities. I'm just trying to figure out what other activities might be of interest for her beyond what's been suggested.
