  • What songs would you put on the "ultimate hacker MUSIC cd" ?

The movie "Hackers" spawned 3..yes 3 soundtracks...

if you had to make your ultimate hacker music CD what would your compilation include?

instead of listing multiple pages of songs, lets limit it to 20 tracks max

    :)

I don't know if there can be a "quintessential hacker cd".. I've seen rants about some guys hating techno and liking rock/country/southern rock. .or whatever..

personally, I know my cds tend to come down to Squarepusher, Jurassic 5, Planet Smashers and Ween..

making those four bands go together on one cd, is no easy task...
a pc-0x90 by any other name is a nummish..

Only 20 tracks? Don't you burn in MP3s to get 200 songs one a CD?

hmm, let's see...where is that "Music to Hack By" cd I burned...

ah, here's the song list at least... I'll just type the names as they were in the mp3 files. behold my eccentric music tastes!

[in no particular order since I lost the cd itself...]
Orbital - Halcyon (Hacker Remix Live In New York)
          Techno - Matrix Trance Mix
Final Fantasy VIII - Liberi Fatali
Final Fantasy VI - OSV - Atma Weapon
          Aphex Twin - Polygon window
          Metallica - Fade to Black
          Shakuhachi - Cherry Blossom Sakura
          Skillet - Invincible
Aphex Twin - Complex Mathematical Equation
Matsu Takako - Tsuki no Dance
          Styx - Mr. Roboto
Metallica - Whiskey in the Jar
Toshihiko Seki - Good Luck Good Bye
Offspring - Staring at the Sun
          Sailor Moon - Moon Revenge
Austin Powers - Soul Bossa Nova
          Madonna - Beautiful Stranger
          Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes
The Who - Behind Blue Eyes

there are your twenty tracks. Any album by Yes automatically makes my cut, but it has to be the album entire, so they aren't listed here ^_^

wow..... someone else who's heard skillet

I'm really not into the techno stuff that much, nor the death metal type stuff... on mine I would definately include tool-pushit, soad-toxicity; definately fun songs to hack to
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

at any rate, I don't know of like a whole cd it would take too long to think of like 20 songs (or 200 if we're goin w/ the mp3 thing) but yea word I definately think that:

                SugarHill Gang - Rapper's Delight
                Run DMC - It's Tricky
                and
                Vanilla Ice - Ninja Rap

should definately be like on the cd eh
                those song's are great ; þ

                anyways word

                  A few for the fray...

Taken from what's in heavy rotation from the server at the moment (though most of this can be used as a guideline to assume I'm going through the band's entire playlist on shuffle - these are just the tracks I keep coming back to), here's my selection.

                  - Apoptygma Berzerk: Unicorn

                  - Leaether Strip: Prying Eyes

                  - Front Line Assembly: Provision (12" Mix)

                  - Cassandra Complex: And You Say

                  - Assemblage 23: Bi-Polar

                  - Decoded Feedback: Dream Machine

                  - Girls Under Glass: Frozen

                  - Devo: Deep Sleep

                  - Social Distortion: Prison Bound

                  - Katscan: Brainsaw

                  - Therapy?: Stop It You're Killing Me

                  - Cabaret Voltaire: Automotivation

                  And many, many more.

I can't think of anything appropriate by Tom Jones though.

Frank Sinatra - My Way. I'm a big Sinatra fan actually, though for a CD like this, a punk version would probably kick ass. Have the original covered by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. IMO they do some great cover work, and I would really like to hear them do that one.

Actually if we are going back in time, may I suggest one of my favorites...

William Shatner Sings Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds

Click here for sample clip 396K .au : http://www.pathcom.com/~boby/lsd.au

Seriously this song and Shatner singning it ROCKS!... especially for interpretive dancing... ;)

I think I like their self-titled the most of the 3, although the others were good too. Lyrics were generally weak in my opinion (in context coming from a big MJK fan...), although some songs had good thought in them. The music was great, especially earlier on when they were more bass driven.

As for the Gimme Gimmes, they're always fun to listen to. Although, I've never been much of a fan of the Sinatra/Jones type music in general. Moreso of the Chicago Transit Authority / Simon & Garfunkel / CCR generation
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.
