  • Best method for dealing with canceled contest?

We've never had a contest with lots of traffic canceled after the forum was created, so I don't know what the best method is for dealing with this.

Initially, the idea of dumping all the threads into "New Ideas" and then closing the forum that contained them made sense, but then that would make it difficult to find the related threads later.

    So, here is an alternative:
    [forum=456](CANCELED) DefconBots Robot Contest (CANCELED)[/forum]

And this is within a new forum container:
[forum=476]DC17: CANCELED Official and Unofficial Events and Contests[/forum]

I further went on to apply strike-out to the description... Is that too much? Is the new location enough? I am looking for feedback in this thread.

Do you have a better idea? What is it?

Should I close the forum and all the threads?

    Thanks!

I think this is appropriate and easy enough to understand. I would close the threads and forum, people can talk about it in the other forums.

If Defcon was truly canceled one year I wonder what it would take to actually make folks believe it? I'm sure some people would still show up no matter what just because they couldn't cancel their trip. So that begs the question is Defcon ever truly canceled?

Yeah, somebody should have given TheCotMan a heads up before he went around creating all those forums. All that work is just going to result in more work.

          New poll:

Should all the forums be renamed:

          (CANCELED) Forum Name (CANCELED)

Or should he could create a new forum:

DC17 CANCELED: Official and Unofficial Events and Contests

and move the existing forums as a sub-forum of the new forum container.

So you are saying that even though Defccon is cancelled[*] we should leave the Ride and Room Sharing forum open?

[*] I can't get away from the British variant, sorry.

CANCELED is of no use since Defcon is always canceled,

                How about 404?

We could also consider "In the weeds".

                  Something more "cyber" SIGKILL'ed?
