Re: [keylogging at the office] le'sigh

I'm not trying to be obstinate, nor am I attempting to deflect blame in this case.
Yes, you are. Read your third paragraph.

I clearly admitted my wrongdoing in the handling of this incident.
With caveats, thus, not clearly admitting wrong doing at all.

I think what you're failing to realize is I was under the impression I was performing my job duty once the rogue service had been uncovered. I was not a "normal user" on their network and was informed of that on several occasions. My purpose for being there was to make them more secure. I was trying to gather information on an application that had been installed on the network without notification to the IT team.
Unless your management team was explicit about what you could or could not do (and it is incumbent on YOU to make sure you understand that fully) you were outside of the company mandates. As an employee, act as a consultant. Get it in writing.

IThis isn't a case of me being a jackass, or doing something "wrong". It's a case of a really crappy management team. Who's interests here were essentially spying on their employees, all of them, the key words told the story quite clearly. They couldn't detect what I was doing on the network until I logged onto the exchange server to review some emails. Their client didn't run on linux nor would they have been smart enough to install it.
Yes it is, and yes it is. Your bad. The company network belongs to the company. So does the phone system. They can do whatever they wish with their resources. They are only required by law to advise you that your activities may be monitored. Whether you read the Employee Manual is up to you. Whether they enforce is up to them.
Sounds like they enforced it and you still have heartburn about that. As for second guessing their motives? You haven't presented solid proof about their actual interests, so you are merely speculating. Heresay and thus, bogus.

Trust me, I have moved on and really no interest other than discussing the topic because I find it interesting. To that end I've played devils advocate a little bit, hopefully theres no one "upset" over the discussion.
You apparently haven't moved on because you keep attempting to justify your behavior.

Truthfully my only regret is the method I used to access the email accounts, so on that point, consider it lesson learned.
Good. Perhaps you may wish to think about your other activities. Like, why you didn't on the fly advise your superiors about what you were going to do prior to doing it? Did you keep a log? Shrdlu nailed it completely. I have only commented on this because this thread is growing wearisome to me and because I am 'tard. Oh, and right at this moment, I wouldn't hire you either.

      Regards,

      valkyrie

So well put. I think this is my last word on this, but I did want to compliment you on your turn of phrase. Obviously the OP is not going to learn anything, but perhaps others will (which was my original motivation for ever bothering with this otherwise pointless exercise in futility).

I hate to drag this thread out any longer, and forgive me if it isn't my place to say so as a member with few posts.

          However with regards to your "concerns", you made it quite clear what your intentions were with regards to the monitoring software in your first post;

I don't know whether people didn't pick up on this, or simply didn't bother replying but I hope this can put an end to you trying to justify what happened.
          This is a horrible font

Oh, we picked up on it. Thanks for bringing it up. The final nail in the coffin.

And regardless of how many posts you may have? If you find an inconsistency, please bring it up. It may piss off some people? I rather like it. However, I don't run the forums. :-)
