Copy: Urban Exploration Q&A Session w/o a talk?

Hey folks...

Last year I (and my co-presenter MutantMandias) gave a presentation introducing the DEFCON community to Urban Exploration.

This talk was a huge success (if I may say so) and we received tons of positive feedback. I also managed to raise some decent cashola for the EFF party with some photos I blew up for the talk, and we really enjoyed the breakout Q&A session at the end...

So here's my question:

I don't really have anything new to present, and I don't want to give a re-hash of the same talk this year. However, I really enjoyed contributing to the DEFCON experience, and would be more than happy to do another Q&A session, and maybe make some more framed photos to donate to the EFF party. Do y'all think there would be enough interest to set something like that up? And how would I go about doing a low-key Q&A session without doing a full time-slotted presentation?

Thoughts? Ideas?

I'll definitely be at DEFCON regardless, and I love talking about UrbEx as much as I love chatting about hacking, flying, radio, or any of the various things that inspire us all. So any way I can contribute is a bonus for me as well.

1) please don't think that defcon attendees hadn't heard of urban exploration before your talk...
2) There's "break out sessions" and the side rooms which are set up for side talks like what you're describing. I also believe DT said they're setting up a "lighting talk" session for short presentations.

Well yeah, no kidding. Certainly many had. And certainly it was a new concept for some of the people in the room. I'm just checking to see if there is continued interest for discussion after the reception my talk got last year.

Right-o. As I said, I don't have a new presentation, so I'm hesitant to submit anything to the CFPs. If there's interest, I'll see about setting something up.

I thought the talk was great!

This is just a suggestion, Perhaps make it a 'safety' orented talk. UE is extreemly dangerous! Im not trying to sound like a pussy or scare anyone away from urban exploring, but people can (and have) died exploring before. I would hate to see some one get all excited about something as cool as urban exploration and end up hurting themselves.

Just a suggestion.

Oh yeah, and where are some good places to explore in Vegas? ;)

this is my first defcon and I am going to try and meet up with some people from vegas to explore.

So Sad. I really could use an Urbex buddy. Now we got all these guys in town for
DEFCON , and a few people seemed to be down to go a few places, and no no responses across the board. We could have splore'd for a lil bit , then I would have been more than willing to show em a good time. Oh well.

sounds to me like they are pretty active out there. there is also a book called

I would very much be down for a little exploration with the Graffiti. Bring Cameras and make a presentation out of it? Pass it to people doing the projectors in the big room during CTF? I seem to remember several sets of projectors on walls...

I'm getting into town sometime on Wednesday, and have two events planned for Thursday. Wednesday night or Thursday night might be interesting.

Sure I could show you guys around. I’ve found a few cool sights. It sucks that they are demolishing the Moulin Rouge, It was just too cool, and sadly I’ve only gone once. I need to make another trip! Soon!

I’m also talking to some of the UER guys now. Some of them have expressed interest in going out with us, and showing off some of the cooler-safer spots in Vegas that they’ve found.

With DC about a week away i getting all my junk ready. i am only taking a carry on so i will be packing light what kinda gear do we need for this explo.

Trying to find a copacetic time has been difficult to say the least. So… I just randomly picked Thursday 15:00 hoping to find something at least workable for most. Please send a PM back with your decision to attend or not, and any thoughts/ideas you may have.
