heh, this is me naturally failing to understand relationships the way most folk do them... but (a) what would make her "iffy" about you choosing to attend DEFCON and (b) how exactly is it her concern if you want to go there on your own while she does something else for a weekend? heh... i mean, no one can spend every single waking moment together, right?

The Crypto museum is amazing. I worked there for a summer in high school under Ret. Gen. Morrison. That old man always had the best stories about the evolution of our nations political / military systems. If you have a chance to stop by there, dont pass it up.

As for DC, there are all of the museums, the monuments, K Street, and a lot of other cool things to do. I love the Zoo, and the new panda gardens are amazing!

Hah. I missed DC17 cause of lack of money. She was iffy about me going anyway, but I just couldn't get together the funds. Shmoocon is more feasible because it's on the same coast. I'll see about bringing her :)

There is also a gift shop, and the prices there are lower for various kinds of items than you find in other museum gift shops for similar items. (Tee shirts, pens, shot glasses, etc.) Cameras are also ok, but with many displays, they want you to turn off the flash.
Errr regarding the gift shop, I have an NSA shirt which I purchased from them. First, it makes everyone paranoid wearing it at a con, which can be a little amusing. Secondly, and sadly, most of the stuff there is made in China. Is nothing sacred? Is is a nice shirt.

A group of us went out there two years ago and had a good time. We were pretty much the only ones in there too. Of course, I did have to get a nice NSA polo shirt to wear at work in the summer.

g3k, you should convince her to come along. Hanging out in the evenings isn't completely full of geektalk. I'm planning on doing movie night again, bringing a projector and a harddrive full of movies.

The National Cryptological Museum is REALLY COOL, but it's also decidedly geeky. Besides, it's way out of D.C., and can't be reached easily from the Wardman.

Only one day, and that was because of issues with the website.

Hey now. I've got all new maps and a new version of the program so that's not true. There wasn't a buggy vehicle option, not my fault if the horse can't keep up.
