This will probably be greeted with some anger by those are religious in their belief that Macs can't get malware, but it's interesting attack vector. It reminds me of the story about attacking 127.0.0.1...

Threats targeting the Macintosh platform are much less common than those targeting Windows. The same can be said about video games, where Windows is the dominate platform of the two. Combining games and malware has happened before, but a Mac game performing malicious activities? That’s something relatively new.

Takashi Katsuki, one of our Tokyo engineers, came across just that today. The game looks to be a throw-back to the classic Space Invaders/Galaga style of games from the early 1980s. Thorn, thanks for posting that. Although I'm a "Mactivist", I do admit that they can be attacked (even if it happens way less often than with Windows). I try to keep up with threats to Macs when I hear about them so I can be on the lookout for similar stuff and keep my computer as far away from it as possible.

reminds me of an old mod for DOOM on linux many years ago. All the critters running around and beating on you were linked to processes. You kill them and they get kill -9'd. Game over when you killed the X server process

The thing i don't get about the report is that the game is designed and warned to do what it does, i remember it linking around FB a while ago.

Its not malicous really, its a video game with some potential real life consequences.

There have been several similar apps come and go through the years, in a messed up kind of way, that's actually pretty funny. Kind of a throwback to some of the old style annoy-ware from around the turn of the century, but with a harsher outcome. Sure deleting your home files is a little harsher than constantly ejecting you optical drive, or rebooting your box, but the fact that it tells you what it does, it's either intended for shits and giggles, or the very ignorant.

yeah, a lot of people hate microsoft i hate there windows vista, all those updates, i was on one at school as soon i start playing a mmo rpg game it automatically shut down on me and did it's updates i hate it when they do the stupid updates, i agree that macantosh is a better computer but there is no programs that you can get for it thats the really suckish part about them all. If you have windows vista im sorry you have to go through all the annoying stuff like updates and the stupid problems you have with one, my uncle has one his got a ton of viruses i told the moron to stop downloading so much stuff but he never really did listen to me, i told him time after time but he still downloaded a ton of stuff went to porn sites, what a stupid idiot. then he got it crashed got the blue screen of death, i fixed the crash, and the blue screen of death for him then he wanted me to format it i told him i didn't have the stuff to do it, so he go's down to a guy named "Greg veltry" he formats it and reinstall the wrong plug in, i told him his computer seemed different he didn't listen, then his computer locks him out of the administrator account, gets registry editor error 5, and he called me, i told him what was wrong he got it formatted again, next time he's going to listen to me i bet.

The mac is actually a pretty robust platform in terms of hacking and also exploiting. Everyone I think though is pretty much on the same page that the primary reason for the lack of malware is simply that there isn't as big of a market for it. I don't consider myself a 'mactivist' and all that. I use a mac and I like it well enough. The reason I bought one was because it works, it is aesthetically pleasing to me and I can do school work on it without having to worry too much if the drivers are going to eat themselves on the next update. I only chose stability because of school, otherwise I'd still be tinkering with gentoo, or in some flavor of BSD (yea I know OSX is a BSD variant)

How do you determine robustness ? When you say its actually pretty robust re hacking/exploits, what do you mean ?
