  • Security Agency Contacts

Short version is that Grey, Deviant and I got royally hosed by SAS on our way back from Norway.

I know Deviant will have an awesome writeup, but rest assured, the security screwups and stupidity were monumental. International incident quality.

We want to make sure all the security agencies involved know about this. If anyone has contacts in DHS, CBP, Newark Airport security or the NY/NJ port authority or anyone who might be interested in violations of air travel security regulations or customs oddities, please PM me or take note of when Dev posts his write up and forward it along. We want to make sure this gets the attention it deserves.

You were assaulted by the SAS; British Special Forces http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Air_Service For a second there, I thought that they finally caught up with Render.

I'm assuming you are referring to this SAS http://www.flysas.com/en/us/?WT.mc_id=US15&vst=true.

Unless a bunch of accountants rousted you SAS; http://www.sas.com/

I'm glad you clarified that. The only SAS I know about is the British special forces, and I couldn't figure out why they be bothering Render, et al at Newark.

I am looking forward to reading the entire story, I wonder if it would be possible to get some sort of response from SAS.

              Re: Security Agency Contacts

Thus far i've contacted Scandinavian Air reps in both Newark and Denmark due to violations of policy that happened both places. I'm speaking with the FAA shortly, since this is something that does need their notice, as well. As for the TSA, they have intentionally made themselves entirely un-reachable by design and i'm given to wonder whether complaining to them (about a small ancillary detail of the story) even matters.

Render, who was that author of which you spoke when we were in the air? PM me?

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Just a suggestion: Contacts within Infragard might be a good place take this.

So am I. I was just thinking if Dev had any local contacts that are Infragard members that he might talk directly with them.

                      Re: Security Agency Contacts

UPDATE: the latest seems to be the following comments...

TSA main office: "call the FAA"

FAA: "leave a message and we'll call you back." (no one has yet)

CBP main office: "we don't know anything, talk to Newark airport Customs"

CBP at EWR: "meh, this isn't really a big deal"

                      SAS: no response whatsoever

still writing it all up, more will surface in a day or so... definitely thursday at the latest.

the latest results across the board, btw, are...

dev, render, grey: all bags mishandled to the point of violating international anti-terrorism policy

renderman: one bag badly misrouted after the fact. one incident of baggage theft

dev: multiple incidents of baggage tampering and theft by parties still unknown (possibly TSA, possibly not)

... plus the great epilogue of bypassing customs inspection on the way into the USA.

You can upgrade my bag to found, inspected and delivered. According to the tags it went through Zurich.

It sucks that my bag went to Switzerland before I did.

Having had the pleasure of interacting with a member of *that* SAS, I'd say if it was them, Render wouldn't be online..or anywhere for that matter.

So, i've finally finished writing up the details of what happened and have posted about it in another thread. Let's continue the discussion there.
