Hey, wait a dag-on minute. I didn't say that.My wife? *amused smirk*
Hey, if you guys all go - I'd go. Florida is close enough to me and I am bored enough that it would be funny to see if we could get enough speakers accepted to sway the direction of the entire con.
Not that anyone here would be interested in any sort of shenanigans like that. ;)Leave a comment:

Re: Hacker Halted
Reply back quickly, say that was your wife in your inbox. Say you will be presenting on the topic of the Sunscreen Security System.
When you get there, approach the microphone...
Then you begin...
"If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now...."
Do your best to hold in the laughs.Leave a comment:

Re: Hacker Halted
You should have accepted and then spoken on something completely outside the realm of what they want to cover. They sent ME an email inviting me to speak. I sent them one back saying, "Uh dude, do you even research the people you send emails out to speak at your conference. I don't even speak on computer security. Are you sure you want me to speak?"
Surprise, surprise there has been no reply.Leave a comment:

Re: Hacker Halted
yeap, as did i. ugh, holy cock... who the hell still uses HTML-based email besides spammers and grandparents anymore?
this is hillarious, btw... direct quote from their email
yeah... this just screams "we're a trade show full of dullards but it's a great way to promote your own business. please show up and try to woo clients."The Hacker Halted promotional campaign is unmatched by any other security event. More than 80 media partners—including industry associations, publications, newsletters, portals, user groups and government agencies—will complement EC-Council’s extensive promotional assets. Your valuable message will be received millions of times before you even arrive at Hacker Halted. Promotion will be enhanced by a partnership with Confex Partners Ltd., a tradeshow consultancy with more than 20 years experience...
i already did that once at RSA and i felt the need to do a bunch of non-profit TOOOL events for the next few cons (B-Sides, CarolinaCon, QuahogCon, etc) just to get the sin of marketing washed off of me.
i wonder if we have enough clout to OuterZone these people.Leave a comment:

Re: Hacker Halted
I just got my second "personalized" email, they really must want me (and everyone else on their mailing list) to speak.
Wonder what they would do with a thousand CFPs...

Re: Hacker Halted
They do make it very difficult to self-train without the course. Although once you actually figure out that you can do it, it didn't take me long. I faxed them the form and the required documentation, and they got me a voucher number (or whatever it is you need to register for the test) within a couple days.
This is one of things things that surprises me on one hand, and doesn't susprise me on the other. I recognize the need to have some baseline of training in terms of the DOD 8570 instruction, but I think CEH was selected more for the title than the content; and because (frankly) it's easy to get.
And now they're instituting CPE's...

LOL OIC. Come watch "ethical hackers" demonstrate the latest pen testing techniques, yawn. When they're done for the day do they sit around drinking water while reading the Bible? That nomenclature is just... ridiculous.like the Prez, i get invited all the time and never really respond back... mostly due to the event's affiliation with the CEH crew. basically any group who pretends they can "certify" someone as a hacker is (in my admittedly limited view) doing a disservice to the name, the scene, the industry, and the person trying to build their resume.Leave a comment:

I was going to see if I could check this out, but it's on my wedding weekend. I'd rather go to SANS in Orlando this year, but it's quite cost prohibitIve :(like the Prez, i get invited all the time and never really respond back... mostly due to the event's affiliation with the CEH crew. basically any group who pretends they can "certify" someone as a hacker is (in my admittedly limited view) doing a disservice to the name, the scene, the industry, and the person trying to build their resume.
I was actually looking to go through the CEH process at my job, but the whole thing seems like a great big scam. The CEH is almost like Security+, it's definately something you can study by yourself, but they push so hard for you to take their official training. In fact, if you opt out and go for self study, it takes upwards of two months to get approved. With their new surprise announcement last month that it's one of the most useful certs according to the DoD, their pockets are going to be filled for a while.Leave a comment:
