Who would you like to meet at DefCon?

I guess this wouldn't apply much to the veterans of the group, but more to the new guys:

Who do you admire? Who is your inspiration? Who would you like to meet at DefCon?


Veterans, I guess to make this fun for you, you can answer the question:

Who are your long time con buddies? Who do you consistently seek out to hang with? Who's got your back?


I ask so I can further my own network and find more people to add to my personal list of cool-as-shit people to meet and hope to learn from.

I'd like to meet most of the forum regulars and the folks from IRC. Outside of these folks, I'd like to meet the EL folks, the big guy Jeff Moss, and many other folks.

I don't think it is so much who I have met, it is more realizing who I met after I relize who they are.

I'll sit there and buy a round and realize that the creator of NMAP, on of the creators of AirCrack NG, Capt'n Crunch, some of the Jinx Clothing guys, and so on and so foruth were all in that group. It is just surreal.

Some of the people I haven't met but would love the oppertunity would be Adrian Lamo (my original insperation). I am sure there are hundreds of others, but I just enjoy the enviroment of having thousands of peers/like minded people around. For most of us we maintain a small group of close friends if any at all.. and then a couple times a year we open up drink a lot and watch all the fun happen (or cause it).

This year the same as every year, I am looking forward to learning a lot and seeing some old friends and making some new ones.

(oh G3K if you don't know already there is a Forum meetup (I believe it is on Thursday night) so all the forum trolls can put a face to an avatar.

John Belushi. His portrayal of 'Bluto' Blutarski in Animal House was completely inspirational to me, and I strive to this day to emulate his example while also reaching for the lofty goal of U.S. Senator - or at least pissing on other peoples' shoes.

Noid, do not know him personally but our lives could have crossed paths with out me knowing it, Dan, just cuz DNS talk was epic. Guys from local phreak groups around here, kinda hard to meet with people sometimes and it will be my first Con so. Forensics crowd, just so I can really get to understand if any of the localized legislation makes sense where they are from, the licensing\cert process here is ridiculous.

I think that the best people you meet at con are not the ones who are well known or famous. The random people you meet can be some of the coolest cats around and turn into some life long friendships (Deviant, CoWF, I'm looking in your direction).

Spending time to seek out celebrities would be better spent buying a round for the random people at a table and starting a conversation. If you happen to run into a celeb, that's cool, but there's a whole lot more people with alot of cool ideas around as well, don't forget them.

I second this. One of the best times I ever had at defcon was when I met some random people & hacked badges together.

I'd like to meet Woz. I saw him rolling by several years ago on his Segway but never managed to talk to him. I don't think he goes anymore.

I would've liked to have met Michael J. Anderson when he was at the Riviera one year at Defcon.

I've heard Violet Blue attends Defcon but I've never seen her there.

I second this. One of the best times I ever had at defcon was when I met some random people & hacked badges together.

I third this. My first con I hacked locks with people I had just met and my second I hacked hardware with people I had just met. They were just Joes, as am I, but I learned a ton and really made good memories.

Actually, if anything I hope I see all of those people again.

Another thought - don't worry about the bigwigs, but instead join a community. I got into the locksport community and am now really involved, and I am glad for that. there are a lot of groups like that - cast about until you find the group that fits you best.

You've already met me. I don't think you can call do-overs. See... I don't remember meeting skroo at Defcon, which is why I mentioned him. We've discussed stuff on the forums, but I don't recall meeting him in person.

Take it back. Me, In a room filled with marshmallows and chocolate of various foreign places and cacao. Maybe I'll let a few people in.....

I'll put out an application process if there appears to be an interest to be present in my fluffy little heaven. I'll put my husband on the list, cause I have to contractually. And L0sT can handle marshmallows, so he can be the official stay puff quality control officer... but all others need to byom&c (marshmallow-n-chocolate) to offer me your DEF CON Demi-Goddess.


Yeah, that's who I want to meet at DEF CON, that about answers it. F$k everything else.
