I know that a posting went up regarding a certain individual attending the forum meet - and the fact that he doesn't actually post to the forums... but since I am new to the forums.... and this is my first DC event, I'd like to make sure that it is ok if I drop in to meet everyone. I plan on staying in touch and remaining a dedicated forum user in the future... I promise :)

WTF are you talking about? The forums meet is a public event. You do not HAVE to be a forum member to attend and as I said before, it's not a private event, but if you are an asshat then we do reserve the right to ask you politely to go elsewhere. It's nice to have new faces join us at the meet and make some new friends. Post count doesn't count for two shits in a wicker basket, IMHO.

As to "a certain individual" WTF are you talking about, I hate cryptic shit like this, who are you talking about. Faye? Blue Rules? My insane Stalker, Maggie Vincent? The New girl BeautifulHacker? I can't think of anyone going to be DENIED entry. ( Except when harassing or STALKING Others) But...that's MY opinion, and even tho I think my shit smells like roses, no one listens to me anyway.

On a serious note. I was talking with Adrian Lamo and he said he was interested in coming to the forum meet. But he was worried that some people might ... bear ill will toward him? Does anyone here really hate him or something? Will it be "safe" for me to bring him along?

Pretty sure they are talking about Adrian Lamo. Honestly, I don't see why it would matter who they are so long as they don't cause trouble. Forum lurkers are some of the best behaved people I've ever known. ;)

That was always my assumption, which is that its open to all, but of limited value if you do not at least have some idea whats going on in the Forums..that being said..I'd encourage all newbies to come and meet/participate!!!!

The only person I can think of I would submit to ban would be that Asshole who chunked the red bull out the window, but that was years ago now..I don't think I even remember who he was other than that Asshole. My understanding is that even Faye under the alias Phoebe Jonez is making friends on Facebook..so this could be a place of redemption as well.

Months back Faye posted to me saying "PLLLEEEAAAZZZEEE I want to be accepted..." I told her this place give everyone a 2nd chance. She is still a bit intimidated but I'd give almost anyone a 2nd chance. Asshole had several chances. Be happy you remembered him for the Red Bull and not what he did with a trash can near the scavenger hunt table.

The meet is really designed for a some face-to-face time for those of us who otherwise communicate on the forums. The name "Forum Meet" might be something of a clue. Lamo, to the best of my knowledge, has never posted here.

Now, before you go to DefCon you may want to create an avatar and then an avatar badge for yourself. That way it will be easier for everyone to familiarize themselves with you and remember you.

Yes this is my first DefCon... and I've been attempting to create my avatar, but alas I still do not have permission. I will get one posted before next week though I'm sure.

I know a few people going, but none that I would necessarily hang around, so I'm going to try and attend some of the events... Looking forward to the forum meet, the scavenger hunt and the TBBQ, Any other event that I should put on my "must attend" list??

I'd posted that, not as a discouragement, but as an explanation. Someone that's just wandering in might otherwise wonder how everyone in the meet already know each other. I explained that in the paragraph immediately following the one you quoted.
