I wonder if one can legally buy an old used payphone. Just carry it around Vegas with you and when you get arrested, produce your receipt and settle out of court!

Why would someone get arrested? I have seen old payphones made into backpacks, i doubt they are functional.
I heard a story where a bum slept on a park bench and got a ticket. So one dau he bought a bench for $50 and took it to the park. He could legally sleep on his own park bench and not get a ticket, but he could not sleep (loiter) on the city bench. One day on his way home he took the bench with him as he always did and he got arrested for stealing city property. In court he proved it was his bench, the cop was a laughing stock.
Imagine having your own pay phone. You can run with it, heck you're not stealing it, you're using it as a running weight. You can take it to the police station and sledgehammer it to pieces on the sidewalk (just clean up after yourself). Nothing illegal has happened, but after last year's payphone fiasco, they will expect something, but with their phone, not yours. :)

It's not too expensive or difficult to buy a payphone. If I had the extra money I'd do it in a second. The only thing is I'd have to get it shipped somewhere into the states. I wouldn't like the questions I'd have to answer about why I was carrying a payphone accross the border ("Are you going to be setting this up for profit?")
This is hilarious! Maybe we can find a phone for sale in Las Vegas. I can see it, when you get a stare form someone tell him it's the first cell phone, or when you see someone with a cell phone ask when they started making them smaller. :D

Better yet -- Have a back pack with a UPS and a Laptop with a wireless modem or PCMCIA modem hooked up to a cell and actually talk on the damned thing while walking down the street!
Just imagine the looks you'd get Everytime you see a cop turn and run. What can they do? It's your payphone! Oh God that would be hilarious.

Reminds me of a fiasco where at a retail store some dude went crazy at a customer service rep because his box was doa everytime he took it home... anyway, he threw it on the ground, and then was escorted outside where he chucked it up in the air, more than a few times...
of course later on he received a bill for the tile he damaged in the store, as well as the chunks that were removed from the asphalt due to his behavior.
