  • Good Taxis?

So we've got the taxi cab rates easy enough at the unofficial Defcon FAQ, this question goes out to those with some experience in Vegas, not necessarily Defcon specific.

Anybody out there have a preferred Taxi company or driver that they find to be the most reliable, friendliest, etc.

Not sure if somebody thought of this topic yet or if there's a link somewhere running around for the same idea (I poked around for a few minutes to see if I was asking a question that already had an answer, didn't find one)
Note on the screen name: The CH is pronounced as a K, and there's a bit of an amusing story behind it involving two other fellows known as El Conquistador and Hank the Hobo...... And a blue bus.... With people in it.

I've never been screwed, generally you don't have a choice when waiting at a cab stand. Just have a general idea of the layout of the city and make sure you don't accidentally go to henderson. Also, NEVER let them take the strip.

I've been long hauled from the airport on 1/2 my trips, even after telling them not to.
It's a $500 fine for them from the taxi authority... But they still try.

To the riv will be about $20-25 plus tip (cabbies are paid only in tips)

If anyones fare is way higher, call the taxi authority before you pay.

If you need to go way up the strip for a touristy visit, the monorail may be a good choice. Short walk to Hilton pick it up there. $5/way or $12/24hours

General advice for flying in to just about any big city (Vegas included).

Don't take a taxi from the airport, take a shuttle.

        Taxi: $20-$25
        Shuttle: Less than $10 http://www.vegas.com/transportation/shuttles.html

Also check out public transit. Sometimes you can get where you're going for under $5 with no extra tips for baggage, but you'll be carrying your own.

Answer: There is a shuttle service which drops off at the Riviera. It is Bell Transport which is located outside of baggage at the airport. The cost is $5.50/per person. Their phone number is (702) 739-7990

I've been ripped off by a taxi driver in Las Vegas. Ugh, it was horrible, the experience left me in tears. I had nothing but good experiences up to that point.

If there are 8 or more of you, take a limo. :)

Never take a taxi. If you can get to the Strip, take the DEUCE bus. It stops right in front of the Riv.
If coming from the airport - yeah - take a shuttle or Limo - even if there are only 4 of you.

I took a taxi to Fry's, he took back roads and it was $75, from the AP! I was ne to vegas then, when you are new it shows.

If I drive anywhere I'll shout SUBWAY RUN! 3 SEATS! and see who wants to go. I'd even shuttle folks to and from the airport.

                    taxi's == evil

Don't do it, all taxi's cabs are members of the yellow hive mind. One giant yellow mass snaking it's way through our cities. Pod people all of them, they have but one purpose in life, to rip you off.

You really can't let your guard down. The days of sitting in the back buried in your thoughts are gone. Ask for rate confirmation from the dispatcher. Ask the for a flat rate if traveling to and from the airport.

Most important, don't fall asleep!!!!!!! You will wake up with a turban on your head, and suddenly have an urge for curry.
