looking at the source code, it looks like it does nothing. It's not stored anywhere except video memory, and no action is taken on leaving the mode.

Based on the what I heard (from the talk, I think?), you can put up four icons that interest you, and have those on your badge. That potentially unlocks, uh, a conversation mode where you talk with other people who have similar interests.

When I told a friend this, she asked "So it's a handkerchief code for nerds?" Uh. Well. Sort of.

That's what I heard as well, but if you had 4 dice on your badge, I guess you'd start a conversation with a therapist to help with your gambling problem.
